This summer, for nine weeks, I had the opportunity to complete a nursing internship with the Senza Frontiere organization, an experience arranged and supported by St-Sicily. The internship took place in multiple centers for minor male refugees, making it a rich cultural and human immersion. What impacted me the most was the human connection: bonding with these young men, sharing a genuine exchange of cultures with both them and the centers' staff, and contributing to giving them a memorable summer. While I didn't feel that I particularly developed on a professional level, the experience was immensely rewarding on a relational and cultural level. Also, it allowed me to consolidate my vision of community health and reinforce my career ambitions: working as close as possible to communities, rather than in a hospital setting. The social aspect was also a major highlight, with the chance to meet many other students, learn Italian in my workplace, and explore Sicily through various activities organized by St-Sicily. Since my colleague and I were the first to do this type of internship in this specific setting with Senza Frontiere and St-Sicily, not everything was seamless upon our arrival, but things steadily improved week after week. Furthermore, although the accommodation lacked some amenities and we experienced Wi-Fi issues, Andrea and Piero did everything they could to resolve these problems. Andrea was consistently dedicated, attentive, and responsive to all the students' needs, showing a true willingness to listen to our feedback and integrate our recommendations to continuously improve the program. Overall, a huge thank you to Andrea and Piero for their guidance and commitment throughout this stay!

My name is Massiva, I’m studying Nursing, and during the summer of 2026, I had the opportunity to complete my internship in Sicily through ST Sicily. My experience with ST Sicily was honestly amazing from start to finish. I felt really well supported throughout the whole experience, and the team was always there whenever I had a problem or an unexpected situation came up. What reassured me the most was knowing that I would never be left alone without a solution. This experience also gave me so much on a personal and cultural level. I got to discover a different culture, meet so many new people and experience things I probably never would have experienced otherwise. Thanks to ST Sicily, I also had the unique opportunity to work with Senza Frontiere, a refugee reception centre that I genuinely think deserves to be better known. I met some incredibly kind and touching people there, and the experience really stayed with me. It allowed me to discover a completely different professional environment, develop new skills and, most importantly, have an experience that was incredibly meaningful on a human level. I’m genuinely grateful to ST Sicily, Andrea and Piero, for their support and for giving me the opportunity to live such a complete and unforgettable experience. My 2026 internship experience in Sicily was truly one of the best experiences I have ever had. From the moment I arrived, I felt welcomed, supported, and excited for everything that was ahead of me. Sicily itself was absolutely amazing the culture, the people, the food, and the beautiful places I was able to explore made this experience so unforgettable.

Andrea was such an incredible support throughout my entire internship. He was always there whenever we needed anything, whether it was something related to our internship, traveling, or simply having someone to turn to. Knowing that he was always available and willing to help made being so far from home feel much easier.

The students I worked with were also amazing. Getting to know them, learning from them, and being part of their everyday experience was something I will always remember. They made my internship so enjoyable and gave me memories that I will carry with me long after leaving Sicily.

This internship gave me the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally while experiencing a completely different culture. I am so grateful for every person I met, every place I visited, and every experience I had. I would absolutely recommend this program to anyone looking for an internship abroad. Sicily will always hold such a special place in my heart, and I am so thankful I got to call it home for a little while.

The STSicily Program is amazing and I would highly recommend! For one, there are very diverse internship opportunities for a wide range of interests, careers, and even ages. I completed an internship in Clinical Psychology, which exposed me to a Sicilian based therapy that I had never had the chance to learn about, but I made friends from all different countries, ages, with wide interests from marketing to international trade. Andrea is an amazing support and makes the program very meaningful - I have studied abroad before and really appreciate the way this program is run and that there is a close staff always available for help and who genuinely cares about the students. Balestrate is a beautiful city that is very affordable and felt very safe. Even though I was only there for a month, I felt like I made another home in the town and look forward to returning and maintaining connections with STSicily.

From the hassle-free taxi transfer upon arrival in Palermo to meeting my two roommates, everything started smoothly. My internship at Sartoria Sociale was clearly the highlight of the experience: being able to apply what I had learned in class to real projects in sustainable fashion made the work deeply rewarding.

Of course, not everything was perfect. We encountered a few issues with our apartment early on, but Andrea from the team went out of his way to help us, resolving every problem within 24 hours and at no extra charge.

If you are looking for hands-on professional experience supported by an incredibly responsive local team, I highly recommend this program!

I completed the psychology internship, where I learned more about the Milan approach to family therapy. Its systemic perspective is truly fascinating and offers a refreshing contrast to what I'm used to.
Being abroad while learning about family therapy alongside other passionate students was also a deeply therapeutic experience in itself. It created a unique environment for both professional and personal growth.

Beyond the workplace, living in Sicily made the experience even more unforgettable. The island is home to incredible historical sites left behind by the Greeks, Romans, Phoenicians, and Normans, making it a dream destination for history enthusiasts like myself. Even if history is not your passion, Sicily offers breathtaking landscapes, beautiful coastlines, and endless opportunities for photography and exploration.

The residences are located in Balestrate, a charming seaside town near Palermo. Spending two months there allowed me to experience life as more than just a tourist. I got to know the local community, recognized familiar faces at restaurants and shops, and developed a genuine appreciation for the slower pace and welcoming atmosphere of the town. Becoming part of a close-knit community made the experience feel authentic and gave me memories that I will carry with me for years to come.

I would highly recommend this internship experience to any student looking to grow both professionally and personally. One of the best parts of the program was the incredible group of students I had the opportunity to share it with. We came from different universities, countries, academic backgrounds, and career aspirations, yet we quickly became close friends. Whether we were working together during the week, exploring Sicily on the weekends, or simply enjoying dinner together in Balestrate, we all shared an experience that brought us closer together. The friendships I made and the memories we created were just as valuable as the professional experience, making this an opportunity I will always look back on with gratitude.

The people working for STSicily are really available for the students, there are really interesting activities in the program, the company that I was working for was really on par with my studies and on top of that, you get to meet students from all around the world, perfect for an internship abroad.

I really enjoyed the internship. I learnt a lot about systematic therapy that I wouldn’t have otherwise. The teachers at the clinic were amazing, the taught me a lot. They work as therapists at the clinic and taught us a lot about how they work which was really interesting. Other than the clinic I had a grad experience exploring Balestrate and Palermo. Andrea was so great in helping with anything we needed and did his best to make sure we had the best experience which I really appreciated . All in all it was a great experience and I would definitely recommend. The people were amazing both interns and staff, they really help make the experience memorable.
