Spanish course

Angie is an excellent teacher fully dedicated to his students. Starting learning spanish from scratch, I made huge progress with his methods, patience, and kindness.
I strongly recommend this program and asking for Angie as a teacher.
During Covid we had to switch from face-to-face classes to virtual and Angie has adapted his method to make it even more effective.
I have often changes in my agenda and travelling abroad but classes have always been hold and rarely when I had to cancel, we have always been able to find new timeslots.

Great Spanish Teacher

Angie Browne is a Spanish teacher that works with Canterbury and I could not recommend her more! She is nice and easy-going and will cater the classes completely to the needs of the student. She also knows the nuanced differences between different Spanish dialects, which is useful and interesting. She routinely takes time out to engage with her students meaningfully. She also uses many pictures and videos during her lessons, which is good. I highly recommend her as a Spanish teacher, even if you use her services separate and aside from Canterbury.

Nice Program with Excellent Spanish Immersion Classes and Opportunities

This is a nice program if you would like Spanish immersion and have spare time to complete a thorough TEFL program. The TEFL course covers a lot of material and prepares students for other teaching opportunities within and outside of the program. This year the teaching opportunities have been a bit limited due to the pandemic, however, it's still a viable option for those looking to come to Spain to teach English.

The program's Spanish teacher, Angie Browne, is great. She does both in-person and online classes (group or private). She tailors the lessons to the students and their needs and places an emphasis on conversation practice which has been a big help in increasing my speaking and listening skills and confidence. Would definitely take her class again.

Canterbury TEFL Course + Spanish Classes

I really enjoyed my time with Canterbury in Madrid. The course was so interesting and interactive thanks to John being such a great professor. I felt confident in my teaching abilities when it came time to start to teaching my classes. Canterbury also offers Spanish classes with Angie Browne. Angie was an incredible teacher and we had a lot of fun in class. She adapts the class to whatever you want to work on and makes it not only interesting, but enjoyable. My level of Spanish has definitely improved with Angie and I have learned a lot of phrases native Spanish speakers use, which is useful especially when you're living in Spain! I am really going to miss classes with Angie, living, and teaching in Madrid - I truly had the time of my life.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I had to do the experience all over again, I really wouldn't change anything - probably just stay in Madrid longer :-)

Amazing teacher

I was working in Madrid for 20 months and despite Covid situation, I learnt so much in Spanish.
Mainly because my training course was just amazing and Angie is an amazing teacher who is constantly trying to adapt methods improving results. She is the best teacher I ever meet and I guess she has a gift for teaching.
I would recommend those lessons with both classes and online in order to enhance skills for understanding verbal expression. Angie is working very hard preparing support and PPT different every lesson

Spanish Adventures & TEFL Programs

I had the pleasure of participating in Canterbury’s Spanish Adventures and TEFL programs. Through the Spanish Adventures program, I was able to take weekly Spanish classes with their amazing Spanish teacher, Angie. I looked forward to each of our classes as she personalized the content to make sure I was learning the language skills I needed while living in Madrid. The TEFL course was extremely well organized and the teacher John’s expertise is invaluable. The director, James, was always available to answer my questions and helped make my transition to Madrid very smooth. He took great care in pairing me with students when I began teaching English. I could not have asked for a better experience and I recommend Canterbury to anyone looking to teach English and/or study Spanish in Madrid.

Excellent quality program taught by passionate and inspiring teacher.

I completed my TEFL course with Canterbury in January 2020. The time on the course was one of my best months in Madrid. John Bouse, the teacher, is a wealth of knowledge not only on the practical aspects of teaching English but also life in Madrid as a English teacher. He is passionate about teaching and inspires the same in you. James and his staff at the academy, where you are guaranteed work after the course if you commit to completing it, are welcoming and encouraging. The course is run very smoothly and the objectives and instructions are clear. At all times you know what is expected from you as a minimum to achieve certification and you are motivated to go beyond that. I have no regrets at all about the investment in this course and have been teaching English in Madrid with confidence ever since.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
You get what you pay for. There may be some cheaper programs out there in Madrid but I felt this was worth every euro from the quality of the program and the job support after completion.

Amazing program with incredible instructors!

If you are looking for a reason to come to Spain and make good money, then look no further than Canterbury TEFL Madrid! The school is comprised of seasoned veteran teachers who give you practical knowledge and teaching experience to be able to apply yourself as a TEFL instructor in Madrid. Receiving the TEFL certificate in only one month and with the added 20 hours of real world experience, I finished the TEFL course with ample knowledge and applicable skills for teaching both children and adults. The company also worked with me to find clients and provide any other assistance I needed to live comfortably in Spain. Although the covid situation limited some of the in-person teaching opportunities I was able to get, the good folks at Canterbury were able to find clients willing to have classes online which made it much easier to find work upon completing the course. Great course and great people leading a well-respected and accredited TEFL course at Canterbury. Highly recommend!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take this time to forge as many friendships as possible!

TEFL Certification Program and Teaching Jobs

The program offered at Canterbury is absolutely great. The quality of the teaching and training are excellent. I learned many things about teaching that extends beyond the normal aspects. The most valuable lesson for me was learning about the culture and people of Spain which helped me understand how to teach effectively. I was offered classes shortly after the program and I have enjoyed teaching those classes. I have taught adults as well as children and they are friendly and willing to learn, which makes teaching a great experience.
The support given by everyone working there is invaluable so you can count on them even when you have completed the program. The students I met from the course who are from all over the world has made the experience exciting and I have made lasting friendships with my classmates. For me, the program was intense, fun and rewarding.

What would you improve about this program?
I would like to see more social events to encourage exchange of ideas, friendships and support for each other as students and teachers.

The Best Time of My Life

I arrived in Madrid in January of 2017. Twenty-three, fresh college graduate and no idea what I had just done. Surely, this had been a mistake. What was I thinking?
Fast forward one year later and I had just gone home to the United States for Christmas. It’s funny how I remember returning home as such a strange experience, when just one year before, the strange part had been arriving in Madrid.
I built a client base there and crafted a schedule that I truly enjoyed. I didn’t know a single thing about teaching, or evidently, even about the English language. Suffice it to say, the entire experience would have been impossible without Canterbury. The course, and the help they offer after the course, are both exceptional. I would have gotten nowhere without them, and largely because of them, I returned home at the end of my experience a far more capable person than the one who stepped off of that plane in January 2017.
There is not a shadow of a doubt that teaching English in Spain was the most rewarding experience of my life. Steve Jobs famously stated, “you can't connect the dots looking forward; you can only connect them looking backwards. So you have to trust that the dots will somehow connect in your future.”
Trust that a year from now, or even ten years from now, you’ll look back and the dots will connect. Despite the fear, the inexperience, the homesickness and the long days, teaching in Madrid was exactly where I was supposed to be.
And I am so much better for it.
