Overall, the experience was great, with a few areas that could be improved.
The academic aspect of the trip lacked organization. The program mentioned that doctors and professionals at the hospital would comprehend English, making it unnecessary to learn Italian. However, on multiple occasions, doctors spoke minimal English and were unable to fully understand my questions or explain parts of the procedures. Fortunately, I met several great nurses who spoke English and helped me communicate with the doctors and understand the procedures.
Another area for improvement is timing. During the first week, I was assigned to shadow the anesthesia department. Unfortunately, by the time I arrived at the operating room, the anesthesiologists had already completed most of their tasks and we were just monitoring the patient's status.
On a positive note, the tourism aspect of the program was excellent. Mario made Naples an unforgettable journey.
