One of a Kind Experience Abroad

I was a part of the first group in the pre-vet Doctor's in Italy program. Although Rome was still under covid restrictions the experience was amazing. We gained hands on experience throughout the week at the two rescue sanctuaries we visited and still had time to explore the city on our own. There was a perfect mix of independence and support granted from the team. Living in Rome for 2 weeks while also ganging veterinary experience was truly a once in a lifetime opportunity. Using the metro to travel around Rome seemed daunting, but it was actually very easy. Additionally, the trains are super affordable and make traveling all around Italy possible.

Pros
  • Ability to explore the country
  • Delving into Italian Culture
Cons
  • Our trip happened in the middle of a heatwave, so the weather was brutal at times!

An experience like no other!

Being a part of this program has been a great way for me as a pre-vet student to get a foot in the door of my career. I learned a lot about animal care, management and treatments through this two week journey, and it has given me the confidence to start getting more involved in the field outside of academics before I graduate. Housing was great and the itinerary provided at the beginning of every week made it very easy to plan accordingly. The only issue I had was regarding food allergies, but even then the problems were remedied very quickly and did not affect my enjoyment for the program at all. Overall this experience was one I'll never forget, and would certainly do again if I had the chance!

Doctor’s in Italy

Doctor’s in Italy allowed for me to comfortable and confident in learning medicine anywhere. It exposed me to a completely different culture with individuals that are so divergent from myself and my culture, which in return made me more open minded. Through my time in Rome, I learned so much more about the rich history and got to visit some of the greatest architectural monuments known to men that I’ve learned about in my history courses growing up. Through this experience I’ve also met some great people from my city managers to peers to the people of Rome and Physicians/Surgeons

Pros
  • The program set up
  • City Managers in Rome

Doctors in Italy

Going to shadow abroad in Italy was easily the best experience ever. Not only do you get to learn about something you're passionate about doing in the future, but you also get to experience life in a foreign, beautiful country that is filled with so much to do. This program does a great job of making sure you have everything you need in order to have a fun and safe experience. I would do it all over again if I could because I miss it so much! I would recommend this program to anyone who is interested in the medical field because its great to learn about global medicine and the different approaches used across the world.

Pros
  • Meeting new people
  • Observing differences in global healthcare
  • Being more culturally competent
