I joined the program after graduating from high school and spent six amazing months in China.
My host family was very kind and welcoming, and I always felt like part of the family. I also really enjoyed my Chinese classes and learned a lot during my stay.Before I arrived, Star Exchange provided a detailed orientation and explained many aspects of daily life and cultural differences in China. After I arrived, they also offered a very practical orientation that helped me settle in quickly. Because of this preparation, I did not experience any culture shock and felt comfortable from the beginning.
Overall, it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. I made great memories, learned a lot about China, and would happily recommend this program to other young people interested in experiencing Chinese culture.

I can honestly say that Star Exchange is a very reliable organization that truly puts safety first. Before the trip, they prepared me very thoroughly—especially during the orientation. The very first section already gave a detailed introduction to China’s general situation as well as cultural differences, which I found extremely helpful.

For example, when I arrived in China, I realized that I was the only student in my Chinese language class who already knew the emergency numbers in China —such as the police, ambulance, and even the fire emergency number. This was something clearly covered during the orientation. Even though China is a very safe country and there is no need for concern for Europeans or foreigners who have never been there, I still think it is excellent that the organization made sure we understood these basic things in advance.

Another highlight was my host family. They were exactly as described—friendly, warm, and welcoming. They treated me like a member of their own family, which made my stay incredibly special.

I am truly grateful to have had this experience with such a trustworthy organization and such a wonderful Chinese host family. It gave me beautiful memories that I will always cherish.

Their training was especially valuable — for example, when teaching me to recognize Chinese cash, they showed me the difference between the 0.5 RMB coin and the 5 RMB note, which I would definitely mix up without their help! Last summer in 2024, I spent two months as an au pair in Guangzhou through a local Chinese agency, and let me tell you, the experience was a disaster. The Chinese lessons they provided were awful—just some random person came once a week for a class, and there was zero support or proper service. The training was basically an hour-long online video that was barely helpful. Needless to say, I didn’t even finish the three-month program because I was so disappointed.
