I had a really great experience with this agency and my six months in China. I came to China right after graduating from high school in Germany, so it was a big step for me and also my first time living abroad for such a long time.Just as stated on their website, Star Exchange did not charge any fees or require any deposit. They also prepared me very well for my time in China and explained many cultural differences before I arrived.
One thing they explained to me was that Chinese people do not always say “thank you” to people they are close to, and that they often show their appreciation and affection through their actions instead. After living with my host family, I really understood what they meant. They didn’t always say “thank you,” but they showed me in so many little ways that they cared about me and appreciated having me in their family.
I am very grateful for this experience and especially for the family I was introduced to. I would definitely recommend this program to young people who are open-minded, curious about China, and want to experience Chinese culture not just as a tourist, but by actually becoming part of a Chinese family.

After I arrived, they also offered a very practical orientation that helped me settle in quickly. Because of this preparation, I did not experience any culture shock and felt comfortable from the beginning.
Overall, it was a wonderful and unforgettable experience. I made great memories, learned a lot about China, and would happily recommend this program to other young people interested in experiencing Chinese culture.

I can honestly say that Star Exchange is a very reliable organization that truly puts safety first. Before the trip, they prepared me very thoroughly—especially during the orientation. The very first section already gave a detailed introduction to China’s general situation as well as cultural differences, which I found extremely helpful.

For example, when I arrived in China, I realized that I was the only student in my Chinese language class who already knew the emergency numbers in China —such as the police, ambulance, and even the fire emergency number. This was something clearly covered during the orientation. Even though China is a very safe country and there is no need for concern for Europeans or foreigners who have never been there, I still think it is excellent that the organization made sure we understood these basic things in advance.

Another highlight was my host family. They were exactly as described—friendly, warm, and welcoming. They treated me like a member of their own family, which made my stay incredibly special.

I am truly grateful to have had this experience with such a trustworthy organization and such a wonderful Chinese host family. It gave me beautiful memories that I will always cherish.

Star Exchange provided incredibly helpful support throughout the entire process. Their training was especially valuable — for example, when teaching me to recognize Chinese cash, they showed me the difference between the 0.5 RMB coin and the 5 RMB note, which I would definitely mix up without their help! They also taught me how to use popular mobile payment methods in China, such as Alipay.
