Scam

It's a scam.

I did the project in South Africa, and discovered that Agape is actually just an agency for the project there. This isn't mentioned ANYWHERE on their website or in the PDF they provide with the description of the project. They present it as THEIR project. I ended up paying them 1880 pounds as opposed to the 1146 pounds I would have paid had I booked directly with the project, which is called Leo Africa. Yes, I did get travel insurance as part of the price, but three weeks of travel insurance doesn't cost 734 pounds.

You'd think with all the extra money I paid them, they'd provide top service, but no. The coordinator had me book a plane ticket BEFORE he had confirmed with the project that there was space for me, which meant I then had to go through the hassle of rebooking the tickets.

What really gets me is that they present themselves as a charity - an altruistic organization that was set up to provide good opportunities for volunteering.

Just to be clear, my experience at Leo Africa was really good, and I can recommend it.

As I said above, people should book directly with LEO Africa: https://leoafrica.org/

Wonderful time

I have nothing but positive things to say about my experience with Agape Volunteers. They were so supportive and made me feel at ease about traveling to a foreign country. I learned so many things, met so many people, and had the time of my life. I volunteered with children while I was there and they were the sweetest kids I have ever met. I can’t wait to go on another trip with them! Kenya was such an interesting place. I have never been to a place like that before, but it was so beautiful. I think I will try another country next, maybe Ghana. I can't wait for the next adventure! It was really so much fun and I never felt like I was on my own at all. If you are on the fence, go with it! You will not regret this life-changing trip! Happy travels!

Incredible experience

All I can say is wow! This really was an experience I will remember forever. I genuinely felt that Agape Volunteers was there every step of the way to guide and encourage me. The people I met, especially the children opened my eyes to so many different styles of life. I feel like I am a better person after going on this trip. I look forward to the day when I can go back and volunteer again. Going on this trip gave me a new passion for helping others and I am so eager to keep doing as much as I can. The kids in Ghana were wonderful! The other volunteers and I will remain friends for life, and I will keep the memories I made close in my heart for years to come. If you are looking to give back and have a one in a lifetime adventure, I totally recommend!

Amazing time

I started looking into volunteer programs when I got an urge to give back, I found Agape Volunteers and could not be more pleased. The amount of culture and experiences I was able to soak up during my time abroad is something I will cherish for a lifetime. I highly recommend trying out this program, if you are on the fence, take it from me, you won’t regret it. I was nervous at first, but they helped guide me along the way. The children whose lives I was able to impact made this trip all worthwhile. They were the sweetest kids, I will never forget them, and I can't wait to go back and see them again. The people I met and the memories I made are something I would have never had the pleasure of doing if I did not go out of my comfort zone and join the program.

Incredible experience

If you want an eye-opening experience you will remember for the rest of your life; this is the place to go. They were there to help me with every step of the way, making this process so much easier. I found exactly what I was looking for; I wanted to go on an adventure, and explore the world, all while being able to give back and help others along the way. I can't even begin to explain the connection I had with these sweet children, I still miss them! I really felt like I was able to teach and support the kids. I thought about traveling on my own, but I can’t express enough how happy I am that I did not. I was not only able to meet so many new people, fellow volunteers, but I felt like I had a support team behind me, which was something I didn't realize I would be so grateful to have.

South Africa was Amazing

Being a volunteer is an experience I will never forget. The staff and the other volunteers have all been wonderful. The knowledge and information they have on the animals, Marataba national Park, Africa and conservation is incredible. They have truly opened my eyes to how we could all make the planet a better place. As a volunteer they take you to the most beautiful places and get you involved in all kinds of activities to improve the park and the conservation of it. I’ve spent 2 weeks here I will take away so many memories and I would recommend this project to anyone.

My favourite bit of the whole trip was the animal tracking and monitoring which was just the most facilitating experience and provides an insight of what is required to support these animals in the long term

What would you improve about this program?
The accommodation is a little bit basic, which isn't a problem, but I think I should have been more prepared for that so I could have been ready!

Amazing

A great adventure! I like green growing things so much.. I like the sun, I like animals. And I saw all these things in the Marataba section of Marakele national park! I enjoyed so much every single drive, even the rainy ones!
I saw lions a lot of times.. the big Anthony, the strong Balio, the cute Athena.. Uncountable zebras, impalas and warthogs. A lot of white rhinos, buffalos and giraffes. And all those elephants! I think that day I saw more elephants in a day than everything else in all other days, ahahah!
Not to mention the two bee eaters turned on by my whistles, ahahah!!!
But how to safely see all these plants and animals? Thanks to Julie's passion, Jason's precision, Sabrina's "impality" (AHAHAHAHAH, @Cameron Bec knows what I'm talking about! :D), Sebastian's simpathy, George's farts & dishes, and Koos's experience!
I liked to feel so relaxed and involved in work at the same time, as part of a bigger project!
Oh... I'll be back!

What would you improve about this program?
Make sure you read all the information before you arrive as there were lots of things which I really should have known before. I think Agape could have made this clearer.

Life changing experience

Do you yearn for an adventure &, at the same time, to do your bit to help save endangered animals & the environment?

I have just come back from my 4th visit to South Africa (2012- 2 weeks, 2013- a month, 2015- 3 weeks & 2016- 3 weeks) which probably says it all!

This passionate conservation team have just started on a new reserve for them in the Limpopo. The Marataba reserve is visually stunning & you can volunteer to help them with their work which includes two game drives a day!

You will meet volunteers of all ages from all over the world &, if you are good at mucking in with a team & doing your bit, you will love it.

My visits have always been a real adventure, each one has been different & you never know what the next day is going to bring!

A truly wonderful & exciting experience which I thoroughly recommend.

What would you improve about this program?
Honestly not sure what to put here, I have been back so often because it is incredible!

Teaching in a Kenyan School

I had heard about Agape Volunteers through a university advertisement, the prospect of doing something different and fulfilling for summer was exciting for me, so I applied.

All of my expectations for a memorable summer were met and more. There were many projects to get involved with but my main placement was teaching at a local school. I found this extremely rewarding and also challenging since I was in charge of a class of 20 children 5 days a week. However, this allowed me to really get involved with their education and form some lifelong bonds with the children.

One of the uncertainties for me before leaving was the other volunteers: were there going to be any others, and if so, would I get along with them? These worries were dashed instantly when I met everyone. I made friendships with a large number of other volunteers from all over the world, some which I fully intend to meet again.

The Agape staff were very helpful and able to answer any questions that I had regarding my placement or Kenyan differences.

I would highly recommend volunteering through Agape for a memorable, rewarding experience which you'll never forget!

What would you improve about this program?
You need to be sure to ask about when school holidays and exams are as you can accidentally volunteer during a period when the kids don't have that many lessons.
