An amazing opportunity

As a digital media student at AUT studying two different courses, I found both the theoretical and the practical parts very interesting and educational! Furthermore, I got the opportunity to work as an intern at a media company in Auckland. Having the opportunity to study AND work with what I love would have been very difficult to have achieved back home. Studying in the heart of Auckland is definitely something I will recommend and if you have the slightest interest in gaining some extra knowledge and experience... do an internship. You will not regret it!

Study at AUT

You would probably get lots of memorable experience for being in New Zealand and studying in AUT in Auckland. There is a diverse culture in this society, so you can make friends with different backgrounds and cultures. This is not only widen your horizon, but also learn to live in a global village. Moreover, AUT is located in the Central Auckland, it is extremely convenient for you to get there and enjoy walking around this city. If you face any difficulties, the school gives us much support as well. Enjoy school life and the stunning view in NZ!

AUT City Campus

A lot of people will tell you that Auckland isn't the real New Zealand, but it's a great place to go to school. AUT is right in the middle of the city, so it's within walking distance to the waterfront, restaurants, parks, and even the buses and car rental places so you can travel outside of Auckland on the weekends. I couldn't have asked for a better location. The school has small classes and I even had a class in the marae. All in all, it was an amazing experience.

International Experience

Not only AUT but also New Zealand was a incredible experience for me to explore a new culture, being far away from home and explore a beautiful nature. Staying in the center of Auckland was the best choice I could make in a not very populated but large country. The University cares a lot about their interenational students and their well-being. E-Mails are getting answered right away, partys and social gatherings were organized and you have always somebody to talk to.
Other than that, I was able to participate in the Te Ara Pou leadership course and the Noho Maraer weekend, which taught me a lot about the Maori culture.

My experiense of my courses at AUT

I had two different courses here at AUT + an Internship. As a Public Health student I found it very interesting to get other peoples views and opinions on how public health should be looked at and viewed in my Lifestyle Diseases class. I got a lot more knowledge about nutrition and athletes in my Sport and Exercise Nutrition class, and I loved that we also had lab assignments to do. My internship was nothing but amazing and I will def. recomand this to others. Last but not least; the Noho Marae weekend! Waow! Best weekend, met heaps of wonderful friends(and whanau), and I cant wait too see many of them back home in Bergen this September!

Amazing New Zealand

I had a great time knowing people from all over the world. When I just arrived, I have to tell I didn't understand a word because of the accent, I have to accept that I thought I won't survive because nobody would understand me and I didn't understand either... Afortunately that changed in 2 or 3 weeks, and I love the New Zealand English accent. I started dating a half Maori half Irish and had a great time listening how he thought México was, hilarious! I traveled to the South Island and omg! Once I even cried because I couldn't believe how beautiful it was! I just love New Zealand and after 6 years I can't get over it...

What would you improve about this program?
It would have been awesome if scholarships for short periods were available

Adventure

While staying at AUT I was able to experience a lot of different cultures. I didn't just experience New Zealanders. My greatest adventure was that they cared for their environment so much that there was en entire island off the grid. I was welcomed to the island and showed another way of living. The owner of the hotel was nice enough to explain how the island survived. We rented a car and drove all over it. The other tiny towns were welcoming and beautiful. The locals even offered my friend a job if he wanted to move there.

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked to have the program hold events not just for people in the program but others as well as a way to get us talking and meeting other people in our area incase some people were shy.

AUT Study Abroad

AUT is very much a city school right in the heart of Auckland. I lived with 4 international roommates and met so many more because of that. Living in this setting was great because I did not travel through a proper program, before coming to AUT. I am forever grateful for my time in New Zealand it changed the way I look at the world. I will definitely be back!

What would you improve about this program?
There was not much of an orientation. It would be helpful to have more things set up to acclimate international students.

Super international uni

I studied in Auckland and followed some great classes. But above all I had the time to meet people from all over the world. I have friends now in many countries and continents. The most special thing about AUT is that after graduating I am still in contact with my friend. I regularly meet them or at least some of them. AUT even helps to improve it by letting someone organise reunions in Europe and America. This time shaped my life, life changing.

What would you improve about this program?
I had realy good relationships eith the teachers, at the end of my studies I even got a hug from the dean of my faculty. However what I would like to have improved, and what is different from studying in the Netherlands is the number of tests: only twice a year, for people like me, more test are better to keep up the studying.

Change your life!

I wanted to see more than just what work and study had to offer - and this was just the program - it literally changed my life!!! I met people I still call family and still call Glasgow my second home. It was the international student program at my Glasgow university that made all the difference - those trips will remain treasured memories forever.

What would you improve about this program?
More preparation for the difference in academic study styles would have been great. I wanted to learn about life - but almost felt it was at the expense of my academics as their structure was just so different!
