I am from Oregon State University, studying a BS in Agriculture and Food Business Management. I spent my last term as an undergraduate at LU through a student exchange program. I took Wine 201, Sheep production, Amenity Horticulture, and Maori & Indigenous planning. I stayed the first half of the term in Farm Town Flats & the second half renting off-campus nearby. Let me tell you, this was an absolutely incredible experience.

As someone who had never traveled outside the US before, I wanted to study abroad, but I was nervous. NZ has such as safe, calming, and kind atmosphere, it was as though I was back home in Oregon with a sprinkle of changes. Lincoln was a sweet little farming town like the one I grew up in, and the people were very friendly. The relationships I formed are exactly what made my entire experience this memorable.

If you have the opportunity to go abroad, just do it!

Lincoln University in New Zealand was a fantastic experience for me. The people that I met in this wonderful institution are now lifelong friends of mine. I have met people from all over the world, who have broadened my perspective about new cultures. This institution brings people in from every corner of the earth, from Europe to Asia and the Americas, and I got to explore their diverse cultures while in the university. Because of their housing layout, I could live and interact with a diverse range of people. The school also creates many events throughout the school year that encourage students to mingle. This experience is lifechanging for me and I would recommend this to anyone who is searching for a new adventure and wants to meet great people from around the world.

Studying in New Zealand was a fantastic adventure. It's such a beautiful country and the people down there are super nice. Lincoln University is a peaceful, but also exciting place to be a student. It is a bit outside the busy city centres, but it is not a long busride to get to Christchurch. Many fun social events and good professors at this uni. Also very close bonds between all the international study abroad students. I would recommend to buy a car to get around, because it is not so easy getting everywhere you want to go by public transport. Do find an ally or two and buy a cheap, used car together.

I had a great time at Lincoln University! I took some interesting courses in geomorphology, physics, and geoinformatics, and had plenty of time to explore the beautiful country. Living in Farm Road Flats was awesome, with lots of international friends around. The campus is small, and everything is within walking distance. My courses included enjoyable field trips, but the best part was the chance to go on hikes and explore the Southern Island. A nice surprise was the affordable buses to Christchurch and the pottery club. I would recommend the university!

I enjoyed studying at Lincoln in NZ so much that I extended my stay from just one semester to two. My second semester was very demanding with lots do to at Uni, but I still think it was worth staying the whole year.

Lincoln is a peaceful and picturesque place with caring professors and kind individuals. Compared to NMBU back home, the classes were small, which gave more intimate relationships and guidance.

It was the other exchange students I spent most of my time with. Particularly as we all lived in FarmRoad, which was great for meeting each others. Many had shared interests in hiking, climbing, and the great outdoors. This made it easy to make friends to go adventuring with in holidays and weekends. Now I have a great network all over the world. I do miss New Zealand, the other exchange-students, the incredible nature there and the slow lifestyle at Lincoln.

My study abroad experience was the best thing that I have ever done. I got to meet incredible people, see amazing sites, and learn all about myself when I only have myself to rely on. I loved my classes and learning how similar yet different we are as countries and within the agriculture community. The students and faculty were great in welcoming me into class and helping me along the way.

I took advantage of the three-week break and got to do a lot of exploring and sightseeing. There is so much to do, just pick what interests you and go for it, you might find something new that you will enjoy!

I absolutely loved my time at Lincoln. I lived in Farm Road Flats, which was absolutely the best way to go. There was a great community there and you meet a a lot of other international students. The campus was always busy with activity which was fun. Mrs O's was the perfect spot to go in between classes. You can walk everywhere on campus, and walk into town to the grocery store. I took only three classes so that I could spend more time exploring New Zealand. I really enjoyed my courses, though. I took my first Environmental Economics course here which actually led me to change my major to environmental econ. I didn't have a lot of classes during the day, and without a car it is kind of difficult to use your free days during the week after class. That is why it was nice living in Farm Road so you could still spend freetime with people, or find something else going on at campus.

There are buses that run into Christchurch which is nice on weekends. It is a bit harder to fit a trip into the city during the week if you have classes, especially with public transit. My friends and I ended up buying a used car together. (Tip: pay the extra $5 for roadside assistance if you're buying an old, used car...) There were about 5 to 6 cars between the group of us at the Farm Road Flats, enough that we could fit a lot of people in the cars to go on camping trips on the weekends. In the first few weeks where I didn't have a car, it was easy enough to hitch rides with people to go on trips on the weekends. I also took the bus in to the city a few times and it was super easy to navigate. I spent a lot of days at Sumner Beach and some days in the city, too. My best weekends were on the various camping trips we did across the island. There are so many options for things to do, whether you want to stay local or go for a bit of a drive. There are multiple local wineries super close by, which are fun to tour!

The people in New Zealand are so nice. On each trip we went on, we would ask locals where we could get a good meat pie. They always had a nice little place to suggest! The scenery is beautiful and it is super easy to find places to camp.

I highly reccomend swimming with the Hector's dolphins in Akaroa Harbor. One of the coolest experiences.

I had an absolute amazing time at Lincoln University! I went early before the school year started to get some traveling in and the Rec center staff were very helpful in setting me up with a tent to go tramp Abel Tasmin. During the school year I greatly enjoyed the yoga classes at the rec center.
Also highly recommend living in Farm House Road Flats! It was great to form a community with other exchange student but also some native Kiwis there. I took Nutrition, and 2 business courses.
Travel lots and definitely take advantage of the 3 week fall (mid-march) break!

I was lucky enough to do a semester abroad at Lincoln’s School of Landscape architecture. The professors were inspiring, the people were kind/fascinating, and the south island’s landscape was truly one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Even though I had the unfortunate timing of attending during the start of COVID, I really could not think of a better place to get “trapped”. The education and experiences I received there were some of my fondest and most important I received during my college career.

Also Kiwi’s really know how to party.

I learned a lot, met amazing people, and had the best time. Everyone at LU, professors, staff etc. were super friendly and welcoming. The accommodation (flat in farm road) was nice. And the location of the Uni is good , as it’s pretty quiet and rural, but close to the city. Also close to the mountains (for skiing, snowboarding & hiking) and the sea. They Uni also offers a lot of clubs (e.g. pottery) and has a nice gym with cool classes. Would totally recommend!
