About Program

CORAL REEF ECOLOGY: FUNCTIONAL ECOLOGY OF CORAL REEFS (June 28 – July 16 and August 9 - 27)

Instructors: Dr. Eric Hochberg (BIOS) and Dr. Yvonne Sawall (BIOS)

Study how environment impacts reef benthic communities and the fundamental processes of photosynthesis and calcification. Examine how global change will impact reef function and study the complex and dynamic interactions between reef communities and their ever-changing environments.

  • Exciting opportunity to conduct research in the most northerly coral reefs in the world
  • Field trips to study coral ecology at patch, rim and terrace reefs and shipwrecks
  • Examine how global change will impact reef function and complex and study how coral communities try to adapt
  • Gain hands-on experience in coral reef research methods such as benthic surveys, laying transects & building underwater photomosaics
  • Study alongside an international cohort in Bermuda's unique "living laboratory"
