What position do you hold at SN Mandarin? What has been your career path so far?

Bella: I work at SN Mandarin as an Account Manager and I have been working at SNM for almost 3 years. Prior to joining SNM, I was working for Microsoft as an assistant HR. I enjoy working in a multi-cultural environment which SNM could offer me. Working here provides me with the opportunity to meet people from all over the world, and get to know different culture and ideas which really inspired me. I think our students would feel the same way as we do, because we treat our students as our friends. We are just a big sweet global family!

What language have you always wanted to learn and why​?

Bella: I’ve been in learning Korean for 2 years. Since Korea is close to China, there’s a need to speak Korean. I also really want to learn Spanish which is the second most widely used language in the world. With the increase of Chinese comprehensive strength, more and more Spanish-speakers are coming to China. So it is beneficial to speak and understand Spanish.

What does the future hold for SN Mandarin? Any exciting new programs to share?

Bella: Yes, we just started a new program about 123-DAY Mandarin which helps short-term tourist in Shanghai learn some survival Chinese. The class includes Chinese manners, basic Chinese culture and tradition, Mandarin and some Shanghainese as well. I believe the class would be great help for those who are new to Shanghai and offer them a magic tour in Shanghai!

What about the future of the industry? How do you think study abroad and international education will change over the next 10 years?

Bella: I am very optimistic about the industry. As we can see, studying abroad has became a trend in China. Without going abroad, most people would only get limited knowledge and stay narrow-minded. Luckily, quite a lot of people have already realized this, and they would like to try to go abroad. I know a student from Spain and he is over 50 years old. When I asked him why he decided to learn Mandarin in such an age, he told me Mandarin brought him a new world and made him feel young again! I think this is a great example why studying abroad is necessary.

Which study abroad destination is most underrated? Conversely, which is most overrated?

Bella: It’s hard to say which destination is the best and which is not that good, as different people have different opinions. In my opinion, America would be a nice destination which embraces multi-culture and diversity. To some extent, China is quite like America -- full of opportunities, challenges and love. So China is also a perfect study abroad destination.
