Life changing experience abroad!

Ever since I was young I incredibly interested in the French language and culture. Thanks to this program, I was fortunate to spend a semester in France. My time spent in Lyon, France absolutely changed my life and I reminisce on the memories and photos to this day months later. My French speaking skills undoubtedly improved thanks to the immersion into the culture and my decision to request a host family for my living situation who didn’t speak any English. The cultural immersion of my program was outstanding and I throughly enjoyed having the opportunity to learn the culture and language to such an extent and in just 3 fast months. I even made strong connections with friends who I’ve stayed in communication with even after the program ended and have visited them in the U.S. as well. These are friends I would have never met without the strong social aspect of my program. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed my experience and would relive it a million times over if I could!

Amazing teachers!

I think that the best part about this program was the teachers. The lessons were always engaging and I felt like I learned so much! The way in which our professor taught grammar made concepts that I had previously struggled to understand before more clear. My French became more authentic in both my writing and speaking having a teacher who was a native to Lyon was wonderful, as she provided deep insight into cultural practices and was able to well explain the nuances within the language. We got to be creative in class and through assignments, and there was never a time when there was nothing to do which was super helpful in forcing me to constantly think in French. Overall it was a great class!

What would you improve about this program?
I would place students in classes that were more specific to their level. We had two groups, but I felt like even within these high/low level groups there was so much variation that some students would be bored at times while others were struggling.
