About Program

What better way to gain hands-on experience with diverse cases, fields, and lawyers than in fast-paced and beautiful cities across Spain, Italy, the UK, France, Greece, Portugal and the US?

At Lex Fellowship by CEA CAPA Abroad, pre-law students rotate to a new law firm each day, where they can expect to gain a deeper understanding of day-to-day life in the legal field. This is done by completing case studies and meeting with firms and attorneys throughout the host cities. In addition, they develop a deep appreciation for the rich cultures our site locations have to offer. For seven years, Lex has been the best opportunity for real-world legal instruction to interested pre-law students. With fellowships in the US and Europe, our programs are for students that are ready to take their law school applications to the next level.

Law school is a significant investment of time and financial resources. Through the Lex Fellowship, you can start to determine if law school is right for you.

Lex Summer Program 2025

This was an amazing experience, and I highly recommend joining if you're unsure about the type of law you want to practice. This has helped me decide on what type of attorney I want to become in a few years. Especially our mentors, Kaylah and Heidi, who help us guide ourselves throughout the city. Even spent time with us after the law firms and helped us with any clarifications that we needed regarding certain topics. In our free time, they reunited us and we went to an event in France because it was their independence It was an amazing experience, and how they included us and how every year all the French people gather around and celebrate it.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moments that I had were when we went after the law visit, we went to have dinner, and some people got lost, including me regarding the location.
Pros
  • made a lot of new friends
  • Got to know many new lawyers
  • Different type of lawyers
Cons
  • not many law firms visit
  • short time
  • not many viewing on france

Lex Fellowship in Lisbon, Portugal!

This summer, I had the incredible opportunity to attend the Lex Fellowship's Pre-Law Program in Lisbon, Portugal. Over two weeks, I worked alongside students from universities across the country, participating in law firm visits, mock trials, legal training sessions, and cultural excursions, including a guided tour of the Portuguese Parliament and Constitutional Court! We explored many areas of law, including international, corporate, family, and even music copyright. The lawyers we met were both welcoming and honest about the realities of their careers, challenging us during our mock “cases” and pushing us to think critically.

It was a truly meaningful experience I will never forget, especially because of the amazing people I met along the way. It also solidified my passion for pursuing a future legal career, and for that, I am deeply grateful.

I am honored to share that I received a Certificate of Excellence from the Lex Fellowship, a special recognition awarded to participants who demonstrate exceptional dedication to all aspects of the program.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
The most nerve-racking moment I experienced was the first day. There was a lot of anticipation and uncertainty going into a new program in a new city. However, I was greeted almost immediately at the airport by our city managers. After that, I felt super comfortable, and every day got better!
Pros
  • Abroad experience
  • Travel
  • Preparing for law school
Cons
  • Expensive
  • Some uncertainty in programming

My journey in DC

The Lex Fellowship in DC was an exceptional opportunity to explore the law school journey and its significance for me. I appreciated learning from our legal assistant and hearing her stories and experiences with the law, especially because of how personal it made the program feel. Whenever there was a problem, it was generally pretty easy to communicate with city managers, roommates, our legal assistant, and others in the group. I really liked the programming of events and the balance between different types of experiences, but I kind of wish that we had gone to the Capitol as a group. The group of students in this program made my experience super fun and memorable. It was very worth getting involved and participating. I believe I improved a lot as a an aspiring law student and individual as a whole.

Pros
  • huge networking opportunities
  • super immersive cultural experience
  • diversity of experiences
Cons
  • internal tension with city managers
  • prescribed groceries -> could be better if there was a poll for each group in a given living situation
  • lack of group photos and attention to the group all around during law firm visits

Boston, Massachusetts 2025

My trip to Boston was truly unforgettable because of the firsthand experience I had working with law firms. Being part of the very first group to go to Boston made it feel extra special—we were paving the way, and that came with both excitement and challenges.

The highlights were definitely the people. I made friends I know I’ll keep for a lifetime, and the bonds we built made the long days worthwhile. My city managers and my assigned 1L student were incredible. They were approachable, supportive, and genuinely invested in helping me succeed. Their guidance didn’t just help me during the trip—it changed the course of my academic journey. Because of their mentorship, I felt motivated to continue my education, and now I’m on track to finish my MBA before pursuing my JD. That kind of inspiration is priceless.

That said, I want to be honest about a few things that could be improved. Since our group was the first to go, there were definitely moments where it felt like the program was still finding its rhythm. Some scheduling issues came up, and there were times we weren’t sure what was expected of us until the last minute. It wasn’t a deal-breaker by any means, but better communication and clearer planning could have made the experience run even more smoothly. I’ve seen other reviewers mention similar concerns, and I think it’s fair to say that while the foundation is strong, the logistics could use a little polish.

What stood out most to me, though, was the exposure to real-world legal work. It wasn’t just classroom learning—I got to step into actual firms, ask questions, and see how lawyers operate day-to-day. That perspective helped me confirm that law is the right path for me. Even when things didn’t go perfectly, the lessons I walked away with outweighed the hiccups.

Looking ahead, I can honestly say Boston left its mark on me. I plan to move there after I finish school, partly because of how connected I felt to the city during my time at Lex. Reconnecting with the lawyers I met and continuing to build on those professional relationships is something I’m excited about.

If you’re considering this program, know that it won’t be perfect—few experiences are—but the people you meet, the doors it opens, and the memories you create will stay with you. For me, it was one of the most meaningful trips I’ve ever taken.

What was your funniest moment?
One of the funniest moments of the trip was when my roommates and I accidentally got on the wrong train. We were so distracted and impressed by the fact that it was a three-story train that we didn’t realize we were heading in the opposite direction. It wasn’t until we noticed that the location of the other girls was getting farther and farther away that it clicked—we were totally off track. Navigating our way back in time to make it to the restaurant turned into an adventure of its own, and we couldn’t stop laughing about it afterward.
Pros
  • Resume Building
  • Networking
  • 1L lessons before starting law school
Cons
  • Wasn’t prepared for the walking and tore my feet up the first week!!!
  • Sometimes stuff was pricey so definitely setting a budget is necessary.
  • Admitted law student made it hard to enjoy trial because she had already done the application process on her own and law school visits that she just talked down on it and our experience.

Paris Program

This program was very insightful into law international and domestic, but still allowed for us to explore the city and enjoy ourselves in this new place. We got to go to the Palais du Justice ( new and old ) and learn for lots of people with lots of experiences. Our city manager and Legal instructor were very helpful to answer questions and offer insight. They were also very kind making this daunting experience a lot easier. Exploring Paris for the first time by myself was one of the best experiences I could've given myself. Overall I am very glad I went.

Good experience

Learned a lot about law, was a very fulfilling and fun experience that was well worth the cost in my opinion. Was a great way for me to figure out whether I want to pursue law in the future or not, and the legal advisor was very helpful with providing information as well as his contact in case we need to reach out to him for anything at all in the future regarding law school or our applications.

Other than that, the food we ate and the restaurants that we went to were amazing, although the accommodations were extremely terrible, the program is a little bit costly in general, and there weren't enough excursions or lunches provided.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
ask as many questions as you can.
Pros
  • Fun
  • Fulfilling
  • Memorable
Cons
  • Not enough excursions
  • Accommodation rooms were terrible
  • Too expensive

LOVED!!!!

This was the best opportunity I’ve ever had. From start to finish, the support I received was remarkable. The community was incredibly welcoming, with everyone eager to help and guide us throughout our stay. I gained a wealth of knowledge and had the chance to connect with so many amazing individuals.

The staff played a crucial role in enhancing our experience, always ensuring that we were engaged and making the most of our time. They organized various activities that were both enjoyable and educational, fostering an environment where learning felt natural and exciting.

Participating in the Lex program was not only rewarding but also a lot of fun. Every day brought new adventures and opportunities to grow, both personally and professionally. I cherished the camaraderie we built and the memories we created together.

Without a doubt, I would recommend this program to anyone looking for a transformative experience. It truly deserves a 10/10 rating, and I’d give it even higher if I could. This opportunity has left a lasting impact on me, and I am grateful for every moment spent there.

Amazing experience !

I had such a great trip! I met some amazing fellow students, lawyers, and teachers. I am so fortunate and I recommend this trip to everyone !! The housing was great and clean and very close to the city. The plans were organized and we learned how to take the metro and travel the city. We tried new restaurants, went to a baseball game, shopped at stores, visited museums, met some experienced lawyers, tried new foods, and lastly, made friendships that will sustain for years to come. I have made best friends, experiences, and memories that will last a lifetime.
