About Program

Convened by the Department of Political Science at Jamia Millia Islamia — A Central University and the Esya Centre, the International Summer School (ISS) is a six-week academic, professional and cultural experience facilitated in the heart of India’s capital city, New Delhi. Since 2013, the program has brought together students from across the globe to dive into India’s remarkable development journey and gain hands-on experience with top organizations driving meaningful change in the country.

Throughout the program, students explore how India’s foundational values, rooted in Mahatma Gandhi’s principles of Swaraj (self-reliance), Satyagraha (commitment to truth), and Sarvodaya (welfare for all), inspire the country’s ability to harmonize tradition with modernity. The course modules are designed for an undergraduate learning experience centred on innovative, sustainable and inclusive models of development that are of relevance to the Global South.
