About Program
In contemporary Mexican culture and society, it is still possible to distinguish forms, attitudes and manifestations of the distant, and not too distant past. The course aims to highlight these reflections of the past in today's world through the visual and performative arts.
The 3-week course will be divided into 4 main topics:
-The original cultures of Mesoamerica
-The viceroyalty of New Spain
-Independent Mexico
- owards modernity and the contemporary world
During the theoretical sessions, the class topics will cover the historical and social contexts of each period, together with its visual and performative manifestations. Those will mainly include painting, sculpture and architecture, as well as rituals, celebrations, and pilgrimages. For the fourth topic, photography and cinema will be included. One day of each week will be dedicated to a field visit to some venues and spaces studied during the week, and every Saturday a cultural tripvwill complement the program.
