A great introduction to Oslo

I enrolled in the Beginner's Norwegian and Scandinavian Government and Politics.

The language course was intensive and effective. With three hours of instruction every weekday, there was plenty of practice speaking, reading, and writing. The instructor was friendly and helpful.

Scandinavian Government and Politics was fascinating; to compare my native country (the US) to Norway and Scandinavia on welfare, political climate, culture, and politics has deepened my understanding as to why the two places are set up as they are. I highly recommend this course to people who want to learn more as to why Norway is the way it is today.

The social program of the Summer School was one of the best I have experienced in a summer program. They organize both weekend trips and nightly social events. When we first began the Summer School we were given an orientation with staff, faculty, and students. We were told important information about the program structure as well as an introduction to Oslo and UiO. A bus tour of the city the first weekend gave as a glimpse of Oslo's culture and history, and other events like Norwegian heritage night and the Talent Show taught us about Norwegian culture and our classmates.

I recommend the International Summer School to students who want a rigorous academic summer in an international setting and who wish to explore Oslo and Norway (on the weekends).
