Great experience

I started my MBA because I wanted to learn more about the business process in the USA and how to apply it in the future and MRU brought me the opportunity and experience that is needed. Professors are so experienced and talented in their fields. Classes are well prepared and the assignments are very useful. Also they introduce a good referral program to international students also. Great place to continue the education program in business, please follow the recommendations they provide to help students with their process.

Review

My experience in the MBA program at MRU was overall positive and academically worthwhile. The program delivers solid business foundations and a structured learning path that helps students build practical knowledge across core management areas. It is not exaggerated or overly intense in its approach, but it is consistent and focused on ensuring that students understand and apply key concepts in real business contexts. The overall quality of the program can be described as good, with a clear academic direction and expectations that are reasonable for graduate-level study.

One of the strongest aspects of the program was Professor Kalicharan, who stood out as an excellent instructor. His explanations were clear, organized, and grounded in real-world experience, which made complex topics easier to understand. He encouraged critical thinking and pushed students to go beyond memorizing theory by asking practical questions and using examples that connected directly to business realities. His feedback on assignments was detailed and constructive, helping students improve not only their understanding of the subject but also their analytical and communication skills.

The coursework throughout the MBA covered essential areas such as strategy, finance, marketing, operations, and leadership. The structure of the courses followed a logical progression, allowing students to build knowledge step by step. Many assignments were application-based rather than purely theoretical. We worked on case analyses, group projects, business reports, and presentations that required us to evaluate real or realistic business situations. These tasks helped develop skills in problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork.

Several courses included longer projects where we had to analyze companies, propose strategies, or assess financial performance. These projects required research, data interpretation, and clear written and oral communication. While the workload was sometimes demanding, it was manageable with good time management. The assignments were meaningful in the sense that they reflected challenges that professionals may face in the workplace. This made the learning experience more relevant and practical.

As an international student, the support I received was good and helped me adapt to the academic environment. Guidance related to administrative processes, academic expectations, and general student matters was available when needed. This support reduced some of the stress that can come with studying in a different country and made it easier to focus on coursework and performance.

Overall, the MBA program at MRU is a good academic option for students looking for a structured and practical business education. It may not feel highly innovative or unusual, but it is reliable in delivering core knowledge and useful academic experiences. The quality of teaching, especially from professors like Kalicharan, and the focus on applied assignments are clear strengths. My evaluation is balanced: a good, professionally organized program that provides valuable learning without being overstated or overly demanding.

A clear next step

My experience was unique because it allowed me to transition from language studies into a university-level program. It helped me develop a different way of thinking, gain a broader academic perspective, and better understand what pursuing a master’s degree involves. Future international students may find it useful as a stepping stone toward further academic or professional goals. The program was especially valuable for international students because it provided insight into academic expectations and classroom culture in a new country. It helped me build confidence in communicating in English, managing assignments, and participating in discussions. It also strengthened important skills such as time management, organization, adaptability, and teamwork. By approaching the program with an open mind, students can gain clarity, develop both academic and personal skills, and feel more prepared for future graduate studies or professional opportunities.

Strong Professors and Peer Learning, but Facilities and Support Need Improvement

Overall, my experience in the MBA program was mixed. Academically, the program has strong content and high expectations, especially thanks to outstanding professors like Dr. Kalicharan, whose teaching quality, clarity, and real-world perspective were the highlight of the program. Learning alongside motivated classmates and sharing experiences with professionals from different backgrounds added significant value and made the academic journey worthwhile.

However, the physical facilities need improvement. While they are acceptable, cleanliness is an issue, particularly in common areas. The cafeteria experience was very disappointing: poor hygiene, low food quality, and an overall unpleasant environment. In addition, I did not feel consistent or proactive support from the program staff when needed.

Regarding virtual classes, even though some instructors are excellent, the online format is not ideal for an in person MBA program. A program of this nature would benefit much more from being fully in-person, as interaction, discussion, and networking are key components of the learning experience.

What would you improve about this program?
I would improve the overall student experience beyond academics. While the academic content and professors are strong, the program would benefit from better facilities maintenance, improved cleanliness, and a higher-quality cafeteria. I would also strengthen student support services, making them more visible and responsive. Finally, I believe the MBA would be much more effective if it were fully in-person, as interaction, discussion, and networking are essential components of a program at this level.
Pros
  • Strong academic content and challenging coursework
  • Excellent professors, especially Dr. Kalicharan
  • Valuable peer interaction and networking
Cons
  • Facilities and common areas need better cleanliness
  • Poor cafeteria quality and hygiene
  • Limited and inconsistent student support
