The CertTESOL (like the CELTA) is accepted by the British Council as an initial TESOL or TEFL qualification for teachers in its accredited teaching organizations in the UK and in its own teaching operations overseas. Credits are also awarded towards degree programs offered by universities in the UK. Both have at least one hundred hours of instruction and six hours of supervised teaching practice. An unaccredited course may provide good training, but the reputation of the training centre may well be limited to one city, region or country, and without regular external monitoring standards can vary.
