Via Lingua Florence

I had an amazing experience with Via Lingua Florence! I was really impressed with the structure of the course. While only 4 weeks long, they used every minute intentionally to give us theoretical knowledge and practical experience. It was the perfect balance of challenging, but not too overwhelming. The instructors were also very supportive and engaging and I felt welcomed into the community. The school was in the heart of Florence's city center, so it was easy to explore the sites after class.

Life Changing Towards My Future

This wasn't my first time travelling abroad solo, but this was my first time experiencing life in a different country where I didn't already have friends or family nearby. It was definitely an experience I'll never, ever forget! Not only was I thankful for having not only the best roommate in our shared student apartment, but she along with the rest of my now best friends from the course made it all the better. And of course, Jackie, Ellen, Stephanie, and the rest of the amazing family at Via Lingua in Florence were the cherry on top.

I've wanted to teach English as a Second Language since graduating high school, but after 2020 I lost my path for awhile.. Taking the TEFL Certification course in Florence not only reassured me of my dream career path, but everyone that was a part of my journey there really made it a dream come true. If I could do it all over again, I definitely would. The school itself is in a very accessible and gorgeous location, and Florence is truly a great city for all travelers, beginners and experts! I would 110% recommend the course and the experience overall to anyone interested.

Thank you again to everyone at the Via Lingua school in Florence for absolutely everything.

What was your funniest moment?
The funniest moment (even though everyday was a memorable adventure!), would have to be when some of my classmates were filming for their group project for the course. All of us in our class had become like family and the best of friends, so all of the filming and behind the scenes was absolutely hilarious, and just so full of fun and laughter.
Pros
  • Thorough guidance with lesson planning and teaching
  • Expert advice with tips and tricks for job searching
  • Support both inside and outside of the classroom
Cons
  • A bit tricky paying/sending course fees
  • Shared apartment included one tenant not taking the course

A great way to get certified

The staff were very helpful in the teaching process whether it be learning the ropes, other practices, or even teaching in general. The teaching methods were hands on, and once you start teaching you discover something about you you didn't know in the first place. The classmates were all very friendly and helpful. Besides learning in the classroom you go outside and learn about culture by walking around Florence. Overall I recommend this course to all those looking for an exciting and rewarding opportunity.

I love this program!

I found this program a year ago and it seemed like a great program to assist in getting to Italy and a great opportunity. Florence is such a beautiful city and the school is located in a great location! The teachers are so nice, supportive, and helpful. The program was very challenging, but I learned a ton about teaching and myself.

I didn’t know how I would do in the program, but I found my way of doing things and really enjoyed the program. The community students were amazing and I highly recommend this program!

Pros
  • Very structured
  • Very informative
  • A quiz program!

Wonderful!

I loved taking this course at Via Lingua. It was interesting, challenging, stimulating and it gave us the opportunity to start practicing our teaching skills right then and there! It was fun, the teachers were supporting and their explanations were clear and on point. The assignments were interesting and useful. The class was small, which I think is a good thing, and full of interesting people from all over the world. It was amazing and it really helped me working towards my goals: I already have a two teaching jobs and I finished my course in October!

What was your funniest moment?
It was when we had to create a end-of-the-course project and we made a video wearing costumes and fake mustaches, we loved it!

A fun and informative month.

Despite the coronavirus pandemic falling slap-bang in the middle of the four week course taking place in the heart of Florence, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Via Lingua. The classes were fun, filled with all the information and advice I could ask for and the days went by really quickly.

I got on really will with all the instructors, and really enjoyed all the teaching practice I was able to absorb in my time at the school. My fellow trainees were diverse in age and background, from Australia to Canada, and the first-day induction had us well integrated and chatting away by lunch-time.

The school adapted really well to the coronavirus pandemic and was still able to provide us with all the support and lessons required to complete the program and receive our certificates.

The work is plentiful but engaging, and we still had the chance to explore some of the city in our down time. I would highly recommend this program to anyone looking to add a useful qualification to their resume, which if put to use can definitely allow you travel further for longer - all whilst immersing yourself one of the most architecturally and historically significant cities in Europe.

What was the most nerve-racking moment and how did you overcome it?
My first teaching experience with actual Italian students from the community was really nerve-racking! I found it was important just to go for it and remember that the teaching practice is designed for you to learn, adapt and improve as the course goes on. If you don't give it your best, with all the confidence you can muster, you aren't going to see the benefits.

Via Lingua Florence is Incredible

Via Lingua Florence was a great experience that I would change nothing about. I honestly can not believe how much I learned during my course. All of the instructors were extremely knowledgeable and truly cared about the material they were teaching us. Between the courses and the teaching practicum, I was able to transition easily into my own classroom. I strongly recommend that anyone who is interested in teaching English abroad choose Via Lingua Florence for their TEFL certification. Not only will you be well prepared to teach English as a second language, but you will also have the opportunity to spend a month of your life in one of the most beautiful cities on earth.

What would you improve about this program?
I can not make any recommendations for improvement because the entire experience was absolutely delightful.

A greeat experience!

I completed the TEFL certification program in August 2017. The fact that the course was located in Florence, Italy, made a great experience even better! From the first day of class, it was clear that the instructors had high expectations of the students, and that we students were facing four weeks of serious work and learning. However, it was also clear that the course was being taught by outstanding professionals. The organized schedule provided to students on the first day made it evident that much time and consideration had been given to designing a schedule that would maximize learning during the four weeks of the course. I felt from the very beginning that I was getting a great return on my money and time!
I entered the program with many years of teaching experience, however, I learned something new every day of the TEFL course. Ironically, I found the teaching practice to be the most challenging part, as the communicative method of teaching was unfamiliar to me. However, the teachers always provided constructive feedback, and time was always provided for reflection and analysis of teaching practice and learning experiences. Both the instructors and the administrator of the Vial Lingua Florence program were highly professional, experienced, knowledgeable and supportive.
Via Lingua Florence also devoted several sessions to the topic of employment. The instructors surveyed our desired locations and types of employment. The school provided a database of language schools with contact information. Instructors provided assistance in the development of CVs, and question-and-answer sessions were also very helpful. Short of actually securing a job for me, I felt that Via Lingua provided more than adequate employment support.
For anyone wishing to teach English to foreign speakers, I would strongly recommend taking the TEFL certification course through Via Lingua Florence. After completing the course, I feel so much more confident in my abilities, and I know I will be a much better teacher to my students!
