Although Cambodia has a growing tourist industry and some new investment, the country still faces numerous challenges and sociopolitical issues that stunt its development as a nation. Cambodia has a horrific past, and it will take a long time to fully recover from it. Today, the average standard of living is very low and one-third of Cambodians live on less than a dollar a day. Poverty, a poor record on human rights, and malnutrition are the main struggles facing Cambodia, and this is where volunteer work can start making a difference.
