About Program

Are you looking for a transformational Conservation Volunteer program that will inspire you to live a more meaningful life?

The Chilcotin Ark is a unique wilderness area due to its diverse wildlife and ecosystems. Our organization is committed to creating a working landscape concept and management that sustains viable populations of species in the Chilcotin Ark. For over 30 years we have been successfully facilitating and conducting participatory action research and conservation projects including invasive species management, habitat management, wildlife studies, proposal writing and citizen science. This volunteer experience takes place at our ranch-based research centre located in the remote wilderness and most of our conservation is completed by horseback. Our mission is to educate the public to become stewards of our wilderness environment and we accomplish this by developing environmental research & training programs in resource management and environmental stewardship.

Program Highlights

  • Live a purposeful life, through our Six Principles of Nature Connection, Nature Conservation, Personal Development, Self-Sufficiency, Empowerment, and Conscious & Aware
  • Program Includes wilderness horseback and survival training upon arrival. Gain experience in wildlife research through collecting data on wilderness horseback trips in the Canadian back country
  • Join a community where we believe the best of each other, want the best for each other and hold one another accountable to be our best self
  • Create positive change in the world and contribute towards something bigger through your involvement in conservation projects and data collection.
  • Experience living in a remote wilderness environment and embrace a self-sufficient lifestyle, where you reconnect with nature and yourself.

A wonderful and immersive experience in the Canadian wilderness!

I spent two months volunteering at Chilcotin Holidays, and it was hands down one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. As a French university student, I came here looking to improve my English, step out of my comfort zone, and discover the real Canadian wilderness. I got exactly what I came for, and so much more!

The environment is beautifully remote, and the reality of the ranch is wonderfully authentic.

If you’re looking for a standard, comfortable luxury vacation, this isn't it. But if you want a genuine, rugged adventure where you will push your limits, build deep connections, and experience the pure Canadian frontier, I 100% recommend Chilcotin Holidays. Thank you!!

My Voulenteer Experiance

This was a really unique volunteer experience in a remote part of British Columbia. It combines conservation work with ranch life and a lot of practical, hands-on learning.

The initial horseback and survival training was really useful and made it much easier to get involved in the work afterwards. Over time, I also had the opportunity to step into more responsibility, including working as an assistant guide, which added a new perspective to the experience.

Most days involved a mix of conservation tasks, helping around the ranch, and learning new skills as you go. What stood out to me was how much trust you’re given and how much you can shape your own involvement over time.

Living and working in a small community like that means you become part of how things run day to day quite quickly. It’s not a typical volunteering setup, but if you’re open to something quite different, it’s a genuinely interesting place to spend time.
