Awesome program awesome people

I loved everything about this program! I was nervous to travel as a minor but GoEco and Maximo took care of me from the moment I decided to do this project. Before my travels, they told me all about the program and Costa Rica and it assured me a lot. When I arrived, a driver from the local service team (Maximo) picked me up and settled me down with my awesome home stay mom. She was so nice to me throughout the program even though I don't speak Spanish well. The program itself was amazing as well, the Principle of the school I was volunteering at was so kind and supported all the volunteers immensely. He brought us snacks and drinks almost everyday and was just in general so kind, welcoming, and generous. I had the best time with the kids and other volunteers there and by the time I was leaving tears were in my eyes, I miss the kids, the school, the principle, and my home stay mom so much!

I would definitely do this again, it was super meaningful and I had so much fun experiencing this. Highly recommend if you're hesitating on doing this program!

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is to explore more when you can, go to beaches and national parks in the weekend, especially if you're a solo traveler - you can be so flexible with your schedule.
Pros
  • meeting new people
  • engaging in local communities
  • improving Spanish
Cons
  • buses are sometimes delayed
  • beaches far away from the city
  • bit of a travel if you live far from where you're volunteering at
