Help Dominica Recover From Hurricane Maria

Video and Photos

Want to help Hurricane Harvey survivors? We can help you get there!

We committed to remaining in Houston for the next two years to help families return back to their homes after Hurricane Harvey, and we need your help to get there! If you commit to volunteering for at least two weeks in 2018, we will provide a round-trip flight from within the United States to help you get to and from our program. Additionally, accommodation and meals are provided regardless of your length of stay.

About

Our team is now stepping in to help with one of the island’s greatest recovery needs – getting children back to school by rebuilding the Paix Bouche Primary School. The school provides education for four communities and has been consistently recognized for significantly impacting national development over the last 50 years. All Hands and Hearts – Smart Response will retrofit the entire school with disaster resistant walls and roof and repair the interiors of the buildings, the electrical system, a computer lab, the playground and all the outdoor fencing.

When complete the new school will provide a safe, disaster-resilient school for 78 students and projected to help be more than 260 children over the next 10 years. It will also serve as a place of refuge, when the next hurricane inevitably comes, for over 900 community members given its disaster resilient design.

Hard work and fun

I just finished 2 weeks with Ahah in Dominica and had a great time. We worked hard at rebuilding a school and houses after the hurricane.

Expect to be moving dirt, concrete or wood a lot. Expect to get dirty and sweaty some times.

Expect to look over at someone else who is also dirty and you both smile.

We played hard at Creole fest and the volunteer dunk tank. What i liked best is how quickly new people are brought in to a community of 40+ volunteers. Whether you are staying a week or 3 months you quickly have friends from around the world and in the local community.

I have volunteered with All Hands in Houston and plan to do it again in Nepal.

I good group that is easy to work with on your schedule.

Boy is 750 characters a lot for a review. Not sure what else to say other than try it out on any of the All Hands and Hearts projects.

How can this program be improved?
More showers :) there are a lot of people on base so making sure everyone can get through showers and lunch is important.
Yes, I recommend this program
