Program Impact
The Good Karma Foundation’s Monastery Support Programme delivers a profound, dual-sided impact that transcends typical volunteering. Primarily, it empowers the monastic community. By teaching English to young monks and nuns—many of whom are Tibetan refugees or from disadvantaged backgrounds—you provide a critical tool for their future. As the Dalai Lama stated, "To learn English is to spread the word." Your lessons enable them to translate sacred texts and share Buddhist wisdom globally, while simultaneously securing their employability should they return to secular life. Equally important is the transformation within you. Living within the monastery’s rhythm fosters deep patience and adaptability. You move beyond tourism into a genuine spiritual exchange, gaining intimate access to meditation and ancient philosophy. Ultimately, this program preserves heritage by bridging the language gap, ensuring these unique traditions do not become isolated. This is not just teaching; it is a shared journey of growth that reshapes your perspective on compassion and connection.
