About Program
In Nicaragua, sea turtle eggs have been harvested and sold for consumption ever since. Natural resources like these are often the only source of income for local families. Unfortunately, on our beach, 100% of the nests are poached now - due to increased demographic and economic pressure.
That's why we buy nests from local egg collectors and incubate them in our hatchery. We also patrol the beach ourselves to look for nests and record the nesting activity. Our scientific work approach ensures high success rates in our hatchery and contributes to the understanding of the local sea turtle population.
Our sea turtle program runs from July till January. During the rest of the year, we focus on other sustainability projects such as: Gardening and Reforestation, Waste management and Upcycling, Ecological building, Environmental education and so on.
Our volunteer program does not only consist of training and work, but also of fun activities, excursions and relaxation.
