About Program
The scenic hillsides outside of Managua house many communities, most built on these same hillsides. During rainy season, these scenic wonders become threats to these communities, not only funneling water down a destructive path, but creating swirling torrents on streets trapping and sometimes carrying away younger residents. During the torrential rainy season the project will reduce water run-off to down-hill communities which exacerbate living conditions below, consequently improving their quality of life. Your team will work on a long-term flash-flood mitigation project. Activities are planned to include (1) planting various types of trees including but not limited to, Eucalyptus, Laurel Indio, and Acacia which are indigenous to the region; (2) rehabilitating hill top flood control systems;and (3) educating community residents on environmental conservation techniques. The focus of the project is to help protect and sustain the natural environment of these communities.
