About Program

The Trulife Internship offers 17 - 23 year olds the chance to join our creative performance team as volunteers and use their passion for drama, dance, media and/or theatre design to reach the youth of South Africa with life-changing messages. The interns receive hands on training in their chosen discipline, tour throughout KwaZulu-Natal, and take part in national and international tours. A big focus of our work is running workshops alongside the performances, during which interns have the opportunity to mentor young children and be part of changing their future. Topics we address in schools include: bullying, peer pressure, drugs & alcohol abuse, sex ed, social justice and human trafficking awareness. International interns will have accommodation and transport sourced for them in the beautiful suburb of Kloof, Durban where we are based. Our motto is "Brave choices = better futures" and we believe your future is waiting at Trulife!

Great opportunity to have SO much fun while growing personally and professionally

I can honestly say my year at Trulife changed my life. When I first heard about Trulife I wasn't totally sure what exactly the organisation did or what it would be like. I had no idea of the incredible impact Trulife would have on my life and the lives of the young people we reached.

On my very first day with Trulife we did our Identity production out at a school. After the production we split the kids into smaller groups for a workshop. There was a boy in my group who stayed after the rest of the kids were dismissed and told me that he felt like he didn't fit in. He didn't feel like he was good at school or sports, and he didn't think he had any skills to bring to the school campus. Because of the work Trulife does, I found myself in a position to speak to this boy about the incredible purpose for his life and the skill set he possessed of which he wasn't even aware. It was an experience I will never forget being able to watch this young man walk away from our conversation with a big smile on his face, walking a little taller.

The people who work at Trulife are SO much fun and very welcoming. The workplace is challenging and inspiring while encouraging you to grow and develop both personally and professionally. During my internship year I was pushed to do tasks and take on responsibilities of which I didn't think I was capable. The leadership empowered me to accept these roles and to step out of my comfort zone. The skills I learned at Trulife have equipped me for the workplace and expanded my capacity and confidence in what I can accomplish both in my personal life and in the professional landscape.

I would recommend the Trulife internship for anyone who loves performing, dance, media, drama, film, or mentoring young people. This program will help you mature and advance your future goals!
