About Program
Here at the Nil Manel Foundation we are determined to protect vulnerable Sea Turtles that are constantly facing threats to their survival. Sea turtles have been living on earth for over 100 million years and 6 of the 7 species are now officially endangered. In Sri Lanka, we see 5 of the 7 main species of sea turtles; including Hawksbill Turtles, Green Turtles, Olive Ridley, Loggerhead and the very rare Leatherback Turtles.
These beautiful creatures need our help. Our hatcheries are based on the stunning beaches of southwest Sri Lanka; here, with our Turtle breeding program, we also rescue, treat and care for injured and sick turtles, then rehabilitate them into the wild. If you come and volunteer with us, you will help to care for the turtles; If you are here during hatching season, then you get to witness these little beauties head towards the ocean.
