About Program

Volunteer in Sri Lanka! Join our English Development team to help make a difference by providing English instruction in neighbourhood schools and civic initiatives. Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime journey with other volunteers from around the globe!

The English Development programme works closely with Sri Lankan schools to develop long-lasting projects that, through teaching and classroom renovations, offer children in the neighbourhood better futures.

Many students in rural schools can understand and speak simple English words, but they lack conversational and comprehension skills. Through hands-on experience in a global educational system, this programme offers volunteers a global perspective and insight into how children develop in various educational environments. Volunteer in local pre-schools, primary schools, after school clubs and help with classroom revamps!

An Unforgettable 5-Week Adventure with Travelteer

My 5 weeks with Travelteer's English Development Volunteering Programme in Sri Lanka were absolutely awesome! I got to make a real difference in local schools, and I had an amazing time painting the Travelteer classroom. Teaching English is so important for these children and also for their parents! The kids were the cutest and brought so much joy to my days! And the best part? The other volunteers were like family - we had a blast together. If you're up for a heartwarming experience that leaves a lasting impact, go for it with Travelteer!

Pros
  • Adorable children
  • rewarding programme
  • great for my CV
Cons
  • I am a fussy eater and didn't like some of the food

Extremely valuable

Friends told me about Travelteer… Thought it looked interesting and would be good for my CV as I want to work with children when I graduate. Had a nice time helping in classrooms gave me hands on experience. I get anxious at times but felt supported whilst teaching the children. Staff were helpful and would support you if needed. Would recommend if you want to get unique experience.

Aside from volunteering the activities in the area were great - was a nice chance to be social with other volunteers.

Pros
  • Felt supported
Cons
  • Had to cover arms and legs when in lesson time - is quite hot. Apart from that can’t think of anything.

English Teaching

Amazing time English Teaching!

I went to Sri Lanka to get more experience in teaching, and to see if it was right for me. I had an amazing time and it really helped me realise what career path I want to go down.

The team are so supportive and are always organising different weekend activities.

I want to give a special shout out to Ruchi for being so an amazing country manager and helping support me through the project. All of the staff are so helpful.

Hikkaduwa is an incredible town to stay in too. It’s got good surfing near by and all the shops and cafes you need. At the weekend we would go to the beach parties and then we had options of white water rafter or safaris to choose from.

Would recommend to anyone looking for an adventure!!
