To offset expenses such as water, electricity and food, we require a contribution of 7,500 baht each month for the first three months. After three months of volunteering and work experience here, we feel that you will have proven your commitment to Yaowawit and so the school will pay your food and accommodation expenses.

About Program

Volunteering at Yaowawit is lots of fun - a big part of your job will be playing and interacting with our children. Aside from that, our volunteers' schedules are organized by our volunteer coordinator who will give you tasks depending on both our needs and your interests.

Tasks can include:
- Assisting teachers in classes
- Helping to plan and monitor activities for the children (from arts to sports to reading club)
- Helping to write student profiles for our sponsorship program
- Taking photos and updating our social media accounts
- Assisting the Hospitality Manager with guests of Yaowawit Lodge such as international school groups
- Planning and participating in English camps

We are located 2 hours north of Phuket, near the small town of Kapong, where there are beautiful waterfalls, hot springs, a local Sunday market and more. Beaches, shops and other tourist attractions can be found at Khao Lak (about 40 mins away).

Welcome to the Jungle

The Tasks
Yaowawit is an amazing project with high ambitions. If you are willing to, you can easily extend your responsibilities and run your own projects and classes. A social institution is always as successful as their staff members. No wonder, that most of them are extremely dedicated and put a huge effort into the school. If you have about the same attitude, you are definitely at the right place. In return, you have the chance to make a difference in the life of children.

The Kids:
Some of the kids have a terrible background. If you see them smiling and playing around, you will instantly feel the value of your work. Some of the kids have very outstanding characters. I will always remember that 4 year old girl, that showed me what real self-confidence means.

The accomodation
Compared to other institutions, the volunteers at Yaowawit have a very comfortable life. You have your own room with a comfortable bed. There is always hot water and there is WIFI on the whole school ground. Do not bring expensive clothes or leather to Yaowawit. Because of the humidity, some things are molding very fast.
The schoolground is fantastic. You can directly pick the fruits from the trees and there are plenty activities like football, volleyball or swimming in the pool.
Especially the kitchenladies are very lovely. There is always enough of food and the volunteers usually get a special meal with less chilli and vegetarian alternatives. In case that you once don't like the food, you can easily drive to the next noodle shop (the one next to the ATM) and get a very cheap meal.

The Area
I love the jungle. The sounds, the smell and the wonderful sunsets.
If you can, I would definitely rent a scooter to explore the surrounding areas. Otherwise you will maybe miss some beautiful places like the Lam Ru waterfall. On the weekend, there are several activities on the school ground. Since Kapong is a very small town, there is absolutely no nightlife.
If you are looking for some bars, clubs or beaches, you can drive about 45 km to Khao Lak and stay there over night. If you plan some bigger excursions (for example Krabi or Khao Sok national park), you can always ask Kit the driver to bring you there. The school will charge you some money for that, but if you are several people, it is totally fine.

Dont go there if...
... you think that volunteering is all about party.
... if you are afraid of insects or reptiles

Go there if you...
... if you want to work with children
... want to spend some time in a wonderful country
... if you want to improve yourself in every possible way
... if you like coconuts

What would you improve about this program?
Someone should open a bar in Kapong to watch football and drink a beer!
