About Program
The Hands On Atlanta AmeriCorps program is an engaging 10-month commitment in which AmeriCorps members impact Atlanta’s most vulnerable youth. AmeriCorps is a voluntary civil society program supported by the US federal government with the goal of helping others and meeting critical needs in the community. Our Members are placed at elementary, middle, or high schools to tutor, coach, and mentor students. The goal is to help students develop essential social/emotional skills and increase their proficiency in math and reading. Members meet with students regularly, track data, and collaborate with schoolteachers, social workers, and administrators.
Outside of their active participation in schools, our members receive guided tutoring/mentoring training, professional development training, and experience in managing volunteers. All in all, the AmeriCorps programs helps our members develop as leaders in their community and encourages them to create change on a manageable level.
