About Program
Belize: Caribbean Reefs & Mayan Culture is an 8‑day summer program for high school students (ages 14–18) designed for adventure, cultural immersion, and meaningful service. Explore the lush Maya Mountains and the vibrant Caribbean reefs of Belize, snorkel alongside turtles, rays, and tropical fish, and visit ancient Mayan ruins. Earn up to 22 community service hours through environmental and community projects, including rainforest conservation and marine ecology. Stay in two unique settings, a jungle base and a beachside hotel, and travel with like-minded teens and experienced Rustic Pathways leaders.

Program Highlights
- Explore Belize’s biodiverse jungle with an expert bush guide, learning about edible and medicinal plants while spotting wildlife in their natural habitat.
- Participate in mammal tracking workshops using camera traps, attend bird banding sessions, and dance to Kriol and West African rhythms at a traditional sambai fire circle.
- Tour local farms, prepare traditional Maya, Garifuna, and Kriol dishes, and experience a night walk through orchards filled with tropical fruits.
- Visit the Maya ruins at Altun Ha, then unwind on Caye Caulker, snorkeling at Hol Chan Marine Reserve, Shark Ray Alley, and searching for manatees in the North Channel.
- Explore Belize’s coral reefs and coastal ecosystems at the Ocean Academy, engaging with local students and learning how education and conservation protect marine life.
