Spanish Immersion with TFT

My trip with TFT in Spain was incredibly fun, engaging and educational. I walked off the plane, having landed in Madrid, not knowing what to expect. For me, this was a totally new experience, with a new program, with new people. In other words, I went in blind. Throughout my trip however, these new people soon became both friends and mentors for life. From an educational standpoint, each day I took about 4 hours worth of Spanish language classes which were enjoyable and engaging. These classes had a range of styles for all types learners: lectures and note taking, hands on visual activities, and interactive scavenger hunts on the streets of Spain. When these classes ended, the fun was just beginning. Each afternoon, there were super fun events, encompassing a range of interests and free time to see more of the various Spanish cities. In all, this was a super fun experience that I’ll remember for my whole life.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I would challenge future travelers of this program to expand and leave their comfort zone. There were various instances throughout my three weeks in Spain where I was trying something new, whether that be an activity or a food, and each time the results were positive. Thus, to all future travelers, challenge yourself and try something new

It was awesome

I loved this trip! I had so much fun meeting new people and making friends. I love trying new foods and new experiences, it brought me out of my shell a little bit but it was comfortable! I had a lot of fun and everyone was nice and I felt encouraged to explore the world around me. Making friends was one of the best parts of the trip and I was grateful to have made friends with someone there. The staff was nice and though traveling can be stressful, they were always there to help me if I had any issues.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
I never thought I'd go white water rafting or waterfall rappelling but I did and I felt pretty awesome about it.
Pros
  • Made good friends
  • Staff was nice
  • Good times
Cons
  • I was ostracized a little bit but it's okay I don't really care
  • Everything was covered in mildew but it's just nature
  • Lots of bugs but we were in a forest so it is whatever to me

French language: Paris and the south of France

I absolutely loved this trip! My time in France with TFT was the highlight of my year. From Day 1, we were immediately immersed in French culture and language. During this trip we got to visit all the sights- the Champs-Elysées, the Notre Dame, and the Arc de Triumph- but our exploration of Paris went so much deeper than a casual visit. We studied French in a local school, ate lunch in little boulangeries, and rode the metro like we were a part of the city. My favorite part of our trip was during the World Cup: nothing beats sitting in a cafe surrounded by boisterous Frenchmen chanting "Allez Les Bleus!" and celebrating with us as the French won the semifinals. To show support, our trip director even wore a rooster hat for every match! She and the other counselors helped us experience more of France than I had ever seen before, It was a truly wonderful trip, and I hope to return someday!
