About Program

Join us to experience veterinary medicine practiced in the field as we go out to villages to perform sterilizations of locally owned dogs and cats with our mobile clinic. We also dart street dogs requiring medical assistance and sterilize them.

We aim to reduce the numbers of unwanted litters that are consequently dumped. Those that survive go on to predate livestock which results in human animal conflict. We also seek to improve the quality of health and welfare of domestic animals by further educating local pet owners.

We work mainly with Bali Heritage dogs which are one of the oldest recorded dog breeds, we run a small sanctuary where participants will get hands on experience observing, interacting with and handling them.

Our program focuses on veterinary medicine; dog behavior; dog training and basic animal husbandry and is suitable for anyone wanting to take up a career in veterinary science or anyone wishing to become a dog trainer/handler or dog behaviorist.

This program is currently not being promoted on Go Overseas by its provider. Check with Paws Of Nusa Penida for the most up-to-date information regarding the status of this program.

Yes, I recommend this program

October 2022

I’ve done a 4 week internship at paws of Nusa penida. As a third year vet student I don’t get to practice a lot of practical veterinary skills yet. This internship is the perfect internship to practice those skills.

One of the highlights was the sterilization days. Dr Hendry and his team came over from Bali. I got private lessons from dr Hendry about any subject I wanted.
Besides sterilization days I went with dr Keke to sterilize or check up on dogs and cats where ever we could find them. This way I got to see parts of Nusa penida you would never see as a tourist. We went to a shop next to a busy road, people’s homes and restaurants. Places you wouldn’t normally expect to be doing sterilizations.

Jacquie looks after the dogs and cats of Nusa Penida very passionately. On top of that she’s an amazing host. Always happy to help plan trips or recommend things to do.

The accommodation is just fabulous. I had a private room with bathroom and double bed.

Pros
  • Culture exchange
  • Valuable study related lessons
  • Life long friends
Cons
  • Not always a senior vet present
