About Program
We do not offer paid internships or cater for volunteering experiences. To be eligible for a Work the World nursing internship, you need to be in nursing school, or have equivalent clinical experience (MD or equivalent). We can also not accept premeds.
Anuradhapura is a Sri Lankan city surrounded by temples, stupas and sites of ancient civilization. A thriving hub of people, this UNESCO World Heritage site isn’t too different from its hospitals, to which a large number of patients form across Sri Lanka are referred, with a range of diseases and ailments. Nursing interns can expect to encounter tropical diseases like dengue fever, cases of malaria, tuberculosis to name but a few.
Work the World also offers participants the opportunity to both observe and practice the ancient art of Ayurveda, or ‘tree medicine’, whilst living in a rural Sri Lankan community. Here, mornings will be spent learning from the local healer, and afternoons exploring the surrounding jungle.
