What made this intern abroad experience unique and special?
Jonathan: The fact that my family comes from Chile and I’ve never been was the most unique and special experience for me, and with this internship I had the chance to see my cultural homeland and origins.
What is one piece of advice you'd give future Adelante students?
Jonathan: Make friends with local people, don’t settle for being comfortable, always ask questions no matter what and take lots of pictures. Expect the unexpected to happen in traveling situations.
Do you feel you got a chance to see the city from a local's perspective?
Jonathan: Absolutely. The friends I made at my internship were all from Viña del Mar or Valparaiso. I had family in Limache and made friends with the friends’ of my flat mates. By the end of my time there I was a real Viñamarino. And if one thing is true about Chileans it's that they love to share their culture with you.
Describe a goal you set and how you went about accomplishing it.
Jonathan: The main goal I set for myself was to get as much work experience as I could and vastly grow my resume and professional value. By the time I finished I published a free website with my online portfolio.
Recall a time when your education and experience didn't prepare you for a situation abroad.
Jonathan: Well most of my education in Uni never prepared me for the kind of situations you face in your travels. You can’t teach someone how to his or her self when they get denied entry into another country because their visa was overdue or you can’t teach someone how to think on their feet. Those skills come from traveling. Things never go according to the plan 100%, so always be prepared for something unexpected.
