My name is Jana and I am from Germany, where I studied Social Sciences and gained my Bachelor's Degree. I am now in New Zealand to gain international work experience and to get my foot in the door of working in the field of marketing. I can proudly say it was the best step I ever took.
What is your favorite travel memory?
I have many of those; however, a place that will always excite me is Waitomo, on New Zealand's North Island. They have many cave tours. You can choose from sitting in a boat and enjoying the beauty of the glowworms to abseiling into a 100m cave entrance and actually swimming in the cave waters!
Adventures like that are unique.
How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?
While working for Intern NZ & Intern OZ I have met many people from all over the world. Working with people from all different sorts of cultural backgrounds always sparks a conversation about how things are being handled in different places of the world.
I have always been tolerant towards diversity and I am even more so now, that I get to learn about different views and cultures first hand.
What is the best story you've heard from a return student?
Many people who have been to New Zealand or Australia and have to go back to their home country at the end of our programme, can not wait to eventually come back to the other side of the world one day. I know of a few who have already gone back for more traveling, some even want to stay for good. Fingers crossed for them :)
If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?
If I could go on any programme that our company offers. I would choose the silver programme. It is designed to not only provide an internship but also take care of the housing for the duration of the internship. It is already a massive step to leave home and knowing everything from A-Z is taken care of is relieving and boosts confidence.
What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?
I am mostly proud of how well we work together in instances that are rather unforeseen, such as any issues that our interns might come across during their time here. We are always on call for the interns to reach out to us. Providing excellent on-site support is not always easy but we always find a solution in the end!
What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?
We are a multicultural team with roots all over the world.
Most of our staff left their own comfort zone by deciding to leave their home country and move to New Zealand. So we have first-hand experience of what it is like to get into new environments and how to cope with new cultures. With this in mind, we are able to provide high-quality assistance when it comes to helping with any insecurities or struggles regarding a new chapter of your life in a foreign country.
