Total Spanish Immersion Program for Adults in a Family Environment

I attended Agualivar in May 2026, and it was everything I had hoped for. I met a wonderful group of people who shared my love of Spanish, and I came away with a deeper appreciation for both the language and the culture. It was a great time!
The program was thoughtfully organized from start to finish. I loved the morning lessons, the delicious meals, and the afternoon cultural excursions, all of which not only helped me with certain aspects of the language, but also with learning more about the local culture. The teachers did an outstanding job ensuring that everything ran smoothly each day, and the property itself is beautiful. Agualivar met my expectations, and I would happily return for another immersion experience. I highly recommend it to adults looking for an authentic and enriching way to improve their Spanish.

I spent a week at Agualivar Spanish School in June, and it was one of the most enjoyable and rewarding learning experiences I’ve had.

I was looking for more than a traditional language school. I wanted immersion. I wanted to improve my Spanish, but I also wanted to experience Spanish life and culture in a genuine way. Agualivar delivered exactly that.

The school is located in a beautiful rural setting overlooking the Mediterranean. Every morning we had lessons on the terrace, surrounded by gardens, sunshine, and sea views. The classes were engaging, challenging, and tailored to our level, but what made the experience special was everything that happened outside the lessons.

Agualivar is not simply a school, is Fani and Eli’s family home. From the moment I arrived, I was welcomed as a guest rather than treated as a customer. We shared meals together, enjoyed long sobremesas after lunch and dinner, and spent the entire week communicating in Spanish.

One of my favorite memories is sitting around the table laughing with everyone and suddenly realizing that the entire conversation was happening in Spanish. Nobody was translating. Nobody was switching to English. We were simply talking, laughing, and enjoying each other’s company. That moment captured the magic of the experience.

The biggest change for me wasn’t grammar or vocabulary. It was confidence.

When I arrived, the taxi driver who brought me to the school and I exchanged only a few words. A week later, that same driver picked me up to take me back. During the journey we chatted about the school, about how Andalusia has changed over the last forty years, about speed cameras on the autovía, and about life in Spain in general. Somewhere during the week, my fear of making mistakes had disappeared.

The afternoons were equally memorable. We explored the local area, practiced Spanish in real situations, and always had fun. Anna’s enthusiastic “¡Vamos, chicos!” became the unofficial soundtrack of the week and still makes me smile when I think about it.

What impressed me most was how much I learned without ever feeling as though I was studying all day. I was challenged. I was corrected when needed. I improved significantly. Yet at the end of each day, it still felt like a vacation.

If you are looking for an experience that combines language learning, cultural immersion, authentic Spanish hospitality, and genuine human connection, I cannot recommend Agualivar highly enough.

For one week, I wasn’t just studying Spanish. I was living it.

Even before the language immersion program began, Eli and Fani went to great lengths to place students with similar needs in the same class. The program was very varied, and the lessons flew by. The afternoon excursions with Ana also provided opportunities to use the language and learn a lot about the culture. On top of that, we were treated to excellent meals prepared by Carmen. And all of this took place in the perfect setting of a beautiful finca with olive trees and its own avocado trees. The week in Agualivar was a perfect experience!

I went to Agualivar course for two weeks in June last year, and it's been the highlight of my 2025. The entire program was so thoughtfully planned, our personal interests taken into account in lesson plans and cultural trips. They knew I love mixology and drinks (esp ceverzas) and they taught a class simply on this topic at a bar/chiringuito where I got to put my knowledge to practice.

The house is breathtaking, almost unreal views on the daily and the surrounding township is everything you imagine south of Spain would be. The food that was made at home was absolutely divine - simple, high quality ingredients, and delicious. Epitome of Spanish home cooking <3

There was plenty of opportunity to speak, think and live in Spanish - and as someone learning the language, this was incredibly valuable. The conversations with the hosts and their family over mealtimes are some of my favorite memories.

Estefanìa, Elizabeth, their mum and entire family + friends + partners are just the sweetest, friendliest, welcoming people. I am considering doing it for the second time, and I wholeheartedly recommend it if you are thinking about it.

I had such a wonderful experience at Agualivar. The teachers were warm, friendly, and skilled. The program is structured in a way that provides variation throughout the day and week. Accommodations were lovely and the food was delicious. And of course my Spanish was much improved after just one week! With a few breaks, we were speaking from 9am to 9pm--which wasn't as overwhelming as it perhaps sounds. I had so much fun and would happily return in the future. I've recommended this program to friends at all levels of Spanish speaking.

Las clases son divertidas y efectivas, y se aprende de manera natural conversando, cocinando y participando en la vida cotidiana. Las excursiones a lugares históricos de Andalucía fueron fascinantes y muy bien organizadas.

La comida fue deliciosa y preparada con cariño, siempre en un ambiente relajado y lleno de risas.

My experience at Agualivar Spanish Immersion School in Lagos, Spain, was wonderful. From the first day, I felt welcomed like part of a family. The teachers are extraordinary: patient, encouraging, and deeply committed to each student's learning.

The classes are fun and effective, and learning happens naturally through conversation, cooking, and participating in everyday life. The excursions to historical sites in Andalusia were fascinating and very well organized.

The food was delicious and lovingly prepared, always in a relaxed atmosphere full of laughter.

Agualivar is not just a school; it's an authentic and intimate cultural experience. I left with much more fluency in Spanish and unforgettable memories. I highly recommend it!

I had a great experience at the Agualivar Spanish School and hope to go again. Was it challenging? Yes! Did I improve my comprehension, conversation, grammar and confidence immensely? Yes, Yes, Yes and Yes. Was it a beautiful place to learn...a big, beautiful villa with a pool on a hillside overlooking the Mediterranean Sea? Yes! Were my teachers educated, engaging, encouraging and entertaining? Very much so. And the selection process paired me with two other students who were comparable to my level and as eager as me to learn. It wasn't just your basic lecturing learning style...yes we had that but we also had games, presentations, field trips to roman museums, olive oil tastings, visits to charming towns...all while learning Spanish. It was fun, it was hard, it was invigorating, it was frustrating, it was incredible. It was something I'd recommend a hundred times over and I hope I can do again very soon. Wow!!! What an incredible experience!!! I cannot say enough wonderful things about Agualivar. Fani and Elisabeth, the program coordinators and teachers, along with their amazing mom, have taken into account everything to ensure that the experience was phenomenal. The attention to detail in coordination, the expertise as teachers in Spanish instruction, and the rich cultural opportunities they provided made this experience of a lifetime. The house the classes are in is beautiful, with wonderful views, a comfortable feel, and delicious meals. I hope to be able to visit and learn at Agualivar again, and can't recommend it enough!!
