my experience

It was a very interesting experience. I got to find out a lot about Indian food. I got to also study a lot! The staff was very helpful and accommodating and I did not feel left out. The social scene was inclusive and fun. The housing was clean. I found all the items i needed for a comfortable stay provided to me for the housing. i did not feel unsafe during any part of the programme. i think it taught me a lot and helped me make new friends. i would recommend my peers to take this programme! thank you

Super friendly people and staff, but quite a few technical problems and very strict curfews

The classes are a very good standard of teaching and are very engaging. The fellow students are also super friendly and are more than happy to help you with any issues you are having. The on-campus food selection is also pretty tasty and cheap!

However, I have had quite a few technical problems in my first week (of which some are not entirely the university's fault to be fair), such as problems with my Indian sim and phone number, not being able to log onto the university app, not being able to scan through the university's gated security checkpoints smoothly, and a few other issues.

There are also very strict security rules and curfews here which has taken a bit of getting used to as it is very different from my home country university setup. For example, no alcohol is allowed on the premises and you cannot leave/come back to campus after midnight.

Also apply for your visa as early as you can as mine got delayed!!

Summer at Ashoka

For my second time ever outside the U.S., Ashoka University has been an amazing place to learn and explore more of India. The students are very welcoming as well as the staff. There are plenty of extracurricular activities to explore outside of academics, such as sports, visits to Delhi, and movie nights. As for the research I am doing, my professor has been very supportive in finding me projects within her lab that match my interests and skill set. She has also been helping me to learn new skills in a field I've never explored before Ashoka. This university is an amazing opportunity to learn more about Indian culture while also building resume worthy experience.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
My advice is getting out of your comfort zone. In order to truly appreciate a culture, you have to place yourself in it. This means eating unfamiliar foods, going out of your way to meet new people, and not being afraid to go out and explore. Ashoka gives the platform, you just have to use it.
Pros
  • Many food options on campus
  • Welcoming faculty and staff
  • Many extracurricular activities
Cons
  • Mess food is repetitive
  • Most places don't have change for cash

A truly amazing learning experience!

The content taught during the Summer Program has been incredibly insightful and intellectually stimulating. I'm so grateful to Ashoka for the opportunity to be part of this experience. The course has been highly engaging and rewarding, and the professor has been approachable and supportive throughout by creating an environment where questions and discussions are always encouraged. I've learned a great deal from both the professor and my peers, and interacting with such a diverse group of students has been equally enriching. The vibrant campus atmosphere and the overall learning experience have made this an unforgettable summer.

Transformative Summer

The Summer at Ashoka program offers a rigorous academic experience with engaging seminar-style classes, approachable faculty, and a vibrant residential campus that brings together students from India and around the world. It's a great opportunity to explore liberal arts in a collaborative environment, make international friendships, and experience campus life in India. While the workload is more demanding than some summer schools, most participants find it rewarding for the intellectual growth, cultural exchange, and lasting connections it provides.

What is your favorite travel memory?

My recent visit to Langkawi was a refreshing experience. The island’s calm, scenic environment, pristine beaches, and relatively uncrowded spaces offered a welcome sense of balance. The slower pace, natural beauty, and quiet moments made it an ideal place to pause, reflect, and return feeling renewed.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

For me, each day has been a journey of learning and adaptation, where global education comes alive through meaningful people, strong partnerships, and a shared sense of purpose. The experience has shaped how I grow, think, and contribute in deeply rewarding ways. It's great to help young minds through our international students.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Their stories of how wandering through India’s streets and cities, they are discovering India, and how these moments have quietly reshaped them. Along the way, they have found meaningful friendships at Ashoka that felt effortless and lasting, and classrooms where faculty lectures challenged how they think.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would be happy to participate in a Staff Mobility Programme at one of our partner universities in Europe, as it would offer valuable exposure to diverse higher education systems, international best practices, and peer learning. Such an experience would meaningfully strengthen my professional skills and contribute to more effective global collaboration at Ashoka.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Ashoka University’s working culture is unique for its openness, collaboration, and shared sense of purpose. Ideas are valued across roles, conversations are thoughtful and respectful, and there is genuine encouragement to learn, innovate, and grow. The environment supports both professional excellence and personal well-being.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe the biggest factor in being a successful company is its people. When individuals feel valued, trusted, and aligned with a shared purpose, they collaborate more effectively, adapt to change, and consistently deliver meaningful impact. A strong culture enables sustained growth and resilience.
