Yes, I recommend this program

I attended the 4-Week Filmmaking program in Florence Italy in the summer of 2019, and that date will always be close to my heart because it was one of the best 4 weeks of my life. Filming short films in Italy was a great experience and I learned more in one month than I did in all my previous film courses for the past 2 years in other schools. The instructors really know what they are talking about and they have amazing ways of teaching you the content. I feel my love for cinema has been revived from attending this program. Everyone in it is just passionate about filmmaking and it is just a wonderful enviroment to make new connections and learn more about the art of filmmaking. I highly recommend this program and I hope to do more with the New York Film Academy soon.

What would you improve about this program?
At times the program did feel a little unorganised.

I already had a lot of experience in TV when I went to Florence but making films was the next step for me. Going to NYFA was one of the best decisions of my life - the educational is very practical and hands on, the tutors are very qualified and helpful, I made friends for life here and I would totally recommend the experience to everyone. I definitely feel more confident in trying to put my ideas on the screen then before and it's all thanks to these amazing people.

After spending one year at NYFA, Sydney I've gained a lot of experience.

First of all, dedicating a year to study Screenwriting has been amazing. I took time to live in a country I love and study something I'm passionated about. Who wouldn't want to do that?

If it wasn't for coming here I wouldn't have met the people I've met or have found a new place to call home. But I honestly don't think the aftermath is the only thing that's important. You will grow so much as a person. Some moments might be tough but most of them will become the best memories you have.

If you ever thought about traveling or studying abroad then you should do it. Not only will the experience and what you learn be something you will keep with you for the rest of your life. But you will also never have to worry what could've been.

It was very good to have the experience of holding a camera, creating your space with lights and props, and actually seeing your concept become a reality. The instructors were quite instrumental in guiding us through this process of going from a few scribbled notes to shaping them into a film-able story, with characters who had clear objectives and arc, which all came to life in random locations, right in front of the camera.... quite an amazing experience!

Post program, I used the knowledge and skill to continue writing and creating promotional videos and monologues, and with that added to my repertoire and resume, I cannot say with all certainty that this program resulted in my being offered a position as a faculty at Tsinghua University, to teach Drama and Literature, but I am quite sure it did not hurt.

I would do it again.....but I have already done it!

What would you improve about this program?
Students be allowed the freedom to shoot off-campus, so that their projects can be more creative, and not limited to the campus grounds.
A bit more time with camera equipment would also be helpful, and more options on editing programs.

It’s a great way to experience the film industry. It tells a lot about how the actual industry works and you can get a feel from it. The classes at New York Film Academy offers editing, lighting, sound sync, directing and writing. So for those students who would like to attend in or be involved in this workshop, I highly recommend you join this big group and have a fun time, because it provides you with extended knowledge and skills to be a good director or cinematographer.

The instructors are very helpful. They spent a lot of their time helping students inside and outside the class. If the students have questions they will be there to help no matter how the situation and time. I will definitely choose New York Film Academy. It’s very hands-on, very practical and it will help you get started.

What is your favorite travel memory?

I love the Greek islands, but I guess my favorite travel memory is the first time I visited Australia.

The vastness of this golden, multi-colored land with blue, blue ocean and palm trees was my idea of paradise. I particularly remember a wonderful sunset at Uluru where, as the sun went down, the rock changed color from light brown to red (yes, red) to purple and then became shadow.

A fabulous experience. And then, of course, the waterfalls of Kakadu...

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

Working for any organization involves collaboration and synthesis in the work you do. In my case, it's been about the joy and sense of achievement I feel as I watch students grow!

By which I mean grow their talent. Teaching numerous intakes of students means that my own approach to the teaching of acting changes; I now have a clearer understanding of where we begin and how we develop and have been able to develop much more precision in which exercises promote growth and insight into the acting process and how to individualize learning experiences.

It's about allowing you to be UNIQUELY YOU!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Well, ok, I'm biased as to which NYFA program I would choose. I would choose the Acting For Film Program. It is tempting to think of 'acting' as something you 'add on' to yourself.

Actually, it's about 'stripping away' or discarding what you don't need and being yourself. Truly being yourself. This is your unique talent. A talent no-one else has.

It's what Tom McSweeney calls your unique 'spice'. This is what makes you employable. This is what gets you the job. This is what we develop at NYFA Gold Coast.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

What makes NYFA unique is a combination of 'spices' mentioned above.

We add a large measure of full-on course content so that you learn at an accelerated rate! We also add a pretty large measure of Tutor passion and enthusiasm which you'll find is infectious.

We certainly add a measure of listening carefully to your thoughts and desires to create a unified student experience. All that remains now is that you join us!

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

In the business world, successful business is about matching a good product with what the consumer needs. But GREAT business is about REALLY listening to your clients and EXCEEDING their expectations. This is exactly what we do at NYFA.

We want you to have a GREAT time so we take time to talk with you and see what you need. Then we show you how we can give you what you need. This two-way dialogue leads to you doing a great course and having a great training.
