Definitely Recommend

I'm loving my experience with the 180-hour Certification! You can tell that the creator's goal is to ensure learners retain information and know exactly how to put it into practice, thanks to genuinely engaging tests and assessments. The assessments are take real time and effort because they are encouraging you to think deeply and analytically and actually use the skills you're learning. Honestly, this makes whole journey so fun! You can apply creative methods to teach and incorporate information.
The Certification covers an amazing range of topics, including Phonetics, Young Learners, and Adult Learners, across both Virtual and In Person classroom settings. The graders are incredibly fair, and the communication across the platform is consistently encouraging and uplifting. My only suggestion would be to add even more interactive materials, but, honestly, this has been such a fantastic program, and I could not recommend it more!

What was your funniest moment?
So I wrote my assessments in Google Docs to make sure I didn't lose information or hard work. On the last assessment, I neglected to copy and paste part of an answer into the exam. Also, this is how I missed a question on the second assessment.
Pros
  • Phonetics
  • Graders are clear in communication
  • There are some practices in the course
Cons
  • Online can be limiting
  • Assessments can be scary
  • No real live person to interact with

Level 5 TEFL Course

Having just completed the above course, I can only suggest that if you are thinking of signing up, in my opinion, you should definitely do so.
The course itself is comprehensive and allowed me as the student to navigate through at a pace that suited me, and furthermore, allowed me to revisit specific topics when I felt I needed to.
As an existing CELTA graduate, I wanted to revisit some basics of EFL teaching and perhaps, unlearn some bad habits. This course provided me with a complete opportunity to do this, and in addition, I found that the support offered was exemplary, whether related to any technical issues or just general questions about the programme.
Following the course as it is designed is super helpful and allows for a steady progress, and although I felt some of the exercises and revision points were a little 'slow' at times, the foundational sense of the course was clear.

Pros
  • The support team were fantastic and timely.
  • A very useful course, that as an experienced TEFL teacher, I found compete and informative.
  • The course has obviously been well-thought out.
Cons
  • I did experience some minor technical issues
  • Some of the work I completed was extremely simple and therefore, maybe could be removed or enhanced. For example, some of the questions asked very extremely simple.

TEFL Thailand

I had an amazing experience teaching English in Thailand with the TEFL institute of Ireland! I received a lot of support and guidance from the team which helped the process of moving abroad stress-free, especially because it was my first time living and working in Asia.

I chose the TEFL institute of Ireland because I had heard of the company from a friend and I checked out their website and social media to get more information about the courses on offer. The website had a clear description of the courses. After reading many positive reviews, blog posts on their website and speaking with the course recruiters, I decided that it was my best option. They offer many courses, and I decided to go with the 120-hour TEFL certificate which is the industry standard and allows you to teach anywhere in the world. After completing the course, I decided to apply for the 5-month Thailand internship. I found the course very interesting. It was a great learning experience; the platform is easy to navigate. The course covers a range of topics, from grammar to classroom management. The team are so supportive, and they would answer any questions I had.

The Thailand internship was well organized. I taught M1 and M2 student (ages 12 to 14), in a local city in the northeast. I got to experience authentic Thai culture and lifestyle. The locals were so welcoming, and I made lifelong friends. The cost of living has been affordable, and the salary is more than enough to live comfortably. I am so grateful for the internship program, and I have learned so much about myself on this journey.

I was provided with job support including document preparation and in-country support. It was very clear what was involved in the program, so everything felt well organized, especially when arriving in Thailand, with orientation, travel plans, and visa prep work. I was guided throughout the whole process. The support of the team was reliable, and I would highly recommend them. A special thanks to Oliva, Lisa, and Walter for their support throughout the whole process. Even after settling into the school, they would check up on me to see how everything was going and provide any guidance I needed. Overall, I had an amazing experience, and I would highly recommend the TEFL institute of Ireland for those looking to start their English teaching journey!

Job Title
Business Manager
My background was initially in business, but after a stint teaching TEFL in Thailand, I was hooked. After coming home, I completed a CELTA qualification in Dublin and numerous specialist courses. It wasn't long before I jetted off again, this time to the north of Italy. I spent two years living la dolce vita and teaching English to students of all ages. Since returning home, I have been working with The TEFL Institute for three years, managing the company's business partnerships and overall operations.

Staff Spotlight: Jess Jeffery

What is your favorite travel memory?

There are so many to choose from! My top memories come to mind are spending my first Christmas abroad in soaking up the sun in Koh Samui—ending up in an Irish pub, of all places. In Italy, it was watching the eruption of Mt. Etna from a hotel in Sicily or sipping on a Spritz with friends while taking in breathtaking scenes of the Dolomites.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

It feels like a lifetime ago since I started working for the company, because I have grown so much in that time. I have heard so many inspiring stories and adventures from colleagues and TEFL students, which have made a huge impact on my outlook on the world and reinforced my passion for travelling and teaching by seeing firsthand the benefits it brings to people's lives.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

It's difficult to pin down just one, as I hear new stories every day. One in particular was a student who decided to use his TEFL qualification towards volunteering in Thailand. Even though he had recently experienced a great loss in his family, he decided to go ahead with the opportunity anyway. Hearing that really hit home for me the impact TEFL abroad can have on someone's life. Whether it is to enable them to start fresh, change careers, help others, or just open their mind to a new culture, TEFL can change your life for the better.

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

I would do all the programmes if I had the time. But if I were to choose one, I would go to South Korea. East Asia is a destination I haven't explored yet. The culture is extremely unique and has one of my favourite cuisines. The job opportunities and benefits of working as a TEFL teacher are always very competitive. South Korea is definitely on my bucket list!

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Our company is like no other! While our team may come from different backgrounds, we all share a passion for spreading the word of TEFL and love to see people go abroad to live their best lives. Truthfully, I am proud of my team every day. The determination it takes to keep up in the fast-paced industry of TEFL while always putting the interests of our students above everything is inspiring.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

I believe collaboration is a driving factor for a company's success. Contributions from people of all kinds of backgrounds are important. Particularly in such a dynamic industry as TEFL, the methodologies used in EFL teaching are always collaborative, people-focused, and creative. I think these same elements should be integral parts of a company.
