Ticked All the Boxes

Having been a teacher for many years, and knowing the sheer quantity of information that a TEFL teacher might need, I was, at first, a little suspicious whether one could cram in a whole course in just 11 units. I was dead wrong. I took copious notes and filled notebook after notebook, going deeper into the theories of teaching than I had ever imagined. I enjoyed the course immensely and although some parts did not really apply to my history or future plans (namely teaching young learners), the new details opened my eyes to other areas and gave me a fresh perspective.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?

TEFL course review

Very informative and encouraging course. this is a really well structured and engaging course. the podcasts are great and offer an insight into rea life experiences as a TEFL teacher. The topics are well organised and instructive with lots of helpful tips and information. Some parts are very difficult and hard to remember but they are explained well and effectively. sections that focus on classroom management are also extremely useful and i will no doubt carry these tops forward into my teaching experience

Great TEFL Course

I recently completed the TEFL Nomad course and found it to be a really easy system to use with the sections broken down into mini chapters which kept my motivation up without feeling too overwhelmed.

The course provided a solid foundation in both teaching theory and classroom practice, covering everything from lesson planning and grammar instruction to managing different learner levels and using technology effectively. I definitely learned a few things along the way!

The modules were well-structured, with a good balance of reading, video content, and thought provoking tasks with multiple choice questions at the end of each section to make sure I was retaining the information. I especially appreciated the focus on real-world teaching skills and taking on their advice this will enable me to build confidence in the classroom.

Some elements were a bit repetitive but this also solidified my knowledge.

I would recommend this course to anyone looking to begin a career in English language teaching abroad!

What would you improve about this program?
Some of the information was a bit hard to understand in the way in which it was written. Simpler explanations would have been appreciated.

This Course is Useful

This course is generally quite useful, at least insofar as the information it provides. I was careful to read through each section, and I found this made the quizzes at the end very easy. I fear that they might have been easy regardless; that is to say, someone could just guess the answers to the questions, pass the course, and show up in a foreign school with no idea how to teach. I think the most important component of this course is that it actually teaches English grammar. My understanding is that other similar courses focus more on teaching strategies, leaving students incapable of teaching English with any depth.

Travel Writer & Administrator
After graduating without a clear career path, Will took the opportunity to not only travel - but to live and work - overseas to gain perspective. Blissful and eye-opening experiences as an English teacher in countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Romania mean that Will now helps aspiring teachers find similar opportunities through programme coordinating and travel writing.

What is your favorite travel memory?

Although I love the freedom of being a digital nomad, I miss walking into the classroom to be greeted by celebration and cheers from my primary students in Vietnam. One student even wrote my name on the back of his Real Madrid jersey - as if I was a famous athlete - which was incredibly endearing and exemplifies the influence and ESL teachers can have on students.

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

I've learned to be more open minded, understanding, and empathetic of applicants and people in general. After having done TEFL, I've adopted a mindset that everyone should do the same. However, people come from all walks of life and have their own obstacles, concerns, and apprehensions about leaving home and venturing overseas. Additionally, I've adopted many positive traits from many of the applicants who exhibit a healthy outlook not only on travel but on life in general!

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

An applicant who went out to teach in Thailand now dedicates her time towards caring for the stray dogs in her local area. Not only has she immersed herself in the community as an English teacher, but she also gives back to the community through caring for dogs who need treatment, sustenance, and other forms of attention. It's amazing to see how applicants can not only establish a second-home abroad but become active participants and provide for the community!

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

Although I am already TEFL certified, becoming certified with TEFL Nomad would have provided me with more perspective and insight into teaching English as a foreign teacher. These course modules would have been more fitting as I was unaware of the extent of not only the language barriers but also how cultural differences affect language acquisition in the ESL classroom.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Many TEFL companies lack expertise and insight from former teachers when it actually comes to TEFL. TEFL Nomad lives up to its motto of "for teachers, by teachers," which helps us understand the questions and obstacles that aspiring ESL teachers face. As a company which is entirely made up of ESL teachers in the team, we can put ourselves in our applicants' shoes.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

Personalised support, frequent communication, and transparency. It's important to get to know the person who is providing services for you to assess the values and characteristics of those who you're dealing with. Personalised support in the form of direct communication can provide plenty of assurance and trust between the applicant and the company.
