By combining high-quality instruction, full accreditation and practical skill-building techniques with dozens of real-life classroom and instructional videos, TEFLPros brings real value to an online education. 17 hours of in-classroom video in addition to 30+ hours of video from the company's co-owners, Jos and Whit, provides the closest thing to an in-person experience that you can get with an online course. Whether you want to go volunteer in a local village or work for an international school, we want to prepare you for the world of teaching English as a foreign language. It’s this approach that makes us different. We don't just give you a stack of papers to read and a multiple choice test. We actually prepare you to teach high quality lessons.

Graduates of our course will receive a portfolio of their own lesson plans which have been thoroughly reviewed and commented on by your personal grader, a 120-hour TEFL Certificate and a certificate from our accrediting body Accreditat.

Jocelyn and Whitney are both experienced teachers, who are not only well versed regarding the grammatical skills and teaching styles that are most beneficial in the classroom, they are also full of insight about specific activities that can be applied when you are an EFL teacher.

There course is very thorough and detailed and I would highly recommend it for anyone looking for accreditation to become a foreign language teacher overseas.

I am currently a teacher in Bangkok, TH thanks to the awesome job assistance offered by TEFL Pros as well!

I was really happy with my TEFLPros experience. From my first interaction via email to the job help, I felt like they actually had a heart and soul and wanted to help me. And they did! I feel really prepared to teach online after taking the course. At first I wasn't sure if it would be the right fit, but as the Academic Coordinator Abby explained to me, a TEFL course should prepare you to teach any age, setting, group etc. It was hard for me to understand this before taking the course because I had no idea how lesson planning worked, but now I know how to adapt my lessons to any group and I'm glad I didn't fall for the "bonus online module". Actually, with TEFLPros, I watched a LOT of real classes being taught by real teachers so just having that virtual classroom experience already gives me an idea of what challenges may be presented to me. Anyway, great course, great staff, I'm ready :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
I'm not exactly a traveler but I'm a course taker. I'd say be open minded. There's a reason TEFLPros has the highest ratings. Just because they aren't flashing ads all over the place about a bonus online module doesn't mean they don't teach it. And if you have a question ASK, they were super helpful for me.

I am really happy with my TEFLPros experience. The thing that made me choose them to begin with was the support I received when I had questions before registration. It was nice to talk to an actual human without having a bunch of advertising pushed in my face. I got through the course in a few weeks and I felt like I was actually prepared to plan lessons. I started a job in Japan recently and I have already put some of the things I learned to use. I had a friend that taught abroad that stressed the importance to me of having some good training before going into the classroom so I'm glad that I listened to her and chose a course that trained me, not just gave me a piece of paper. I definitely recommend this course. Arigato TEFLPros!

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
This is not related to the course at all, but I went to my first onsen (Japanese hot spring spa) and it was so relaxing! So far, so good on teaching English abroad!

I just shared my experience on another review site too because it was a really good one. I'm pretty skeptical of online TEFL courses (my school paid for this) but TEFLPros must be different from the rest. It was great, probably even better than what I would have gotten in-person in many ways. They don't have an in-person observation component but rather give you a ton of video, like more than 15 hours I think, to observe via your course portal. You also have to plan lessons and then they give you feedback on them. And it's not like you're flying blind on the lesson planning, they walk you through the whole thing. The course is organized and easy to follow. I had one tech issue (easily resolved by clearing cookies on my computer) and their customer service was prompt and efficient. I really enjoyed it guys, thanks so much.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
It was a positive surprise. I was surprised how good an online course could be, but again, I don't think this is the norm.

I did this course because of all the great reviews I read and i had the same experience. Online courses aren't really my thing but this one was really good. I needed the certification to go teach in Vietnam later this year. I definitely feel prepared to be in the classroom. Before taking the course I had no idea how to lesson plan, I mean I know how to speak English fluently but I didn't realize how different it is to plan a lesson. For this course, I had to plan several lessons and they were all reviewed one-on-one so I knew that I was getting real support, that meant a lot to me since I am totally new to all of this. I have a friend in Vietnam so I didn't really need job assistance from TEFLPros but I'm sure that if I did, it would have been great considering how hands-on they were for other parts of my training. I can't wait to start teaching!

Jocelyn Pollak

Job Title

Jos started as an EFL teacher and after seeing the lack of quality for online TEFL certification programs, she partnered with Whitney in 2015 to build TEFLPros. She has taught over 5000 students from 15+ countries and now focuses on running TEFLPros in order to build a new generation of capable, passionate EFL teachers. She has traveled to 45 countries and has no plans of slowing down!

What is your favorite travel memory?

My favorite travel memories always involve people. One of my favorites was when I went to see the "Crab Sorcerer" in a remote mountainside village in northern Cameroon called Rhumsiki. I was about 25 years old. He looked exactly how you'd expect a crab sorcerer to look, long flowing blue robes and a wise old face. He had a ceramic jug filled with sticks, sand and a few river crabs. He then put a lid on the pot and told me to ask the crabs a question.

I asked what my future would hold. He took the lid off the pot and the crabs had moved the sticks around and scratched lines in the sand. He was very excited about whatever had transpired in the dark pot.

In his tribal language, Kapsiki, he told me that I was going to be a big chief someday and that I would help many people with whatever I am in charge of. I hope he was right!

How have you changed/grown since working for your current company?

When I began TEFLPros, I had a .com business background and English teaching and training expertise, but the concept of building an online business from scratch was new to me. I have learned SO much about web development and I still feel like it's only the tip of the iceberg!

I also learned that it's important to work with the best when it comes to building websites, which is what we did for TEFLPros.

What is the best story you've heard from a return student?

Recently one of our grads got a job at one of the most prestigious schools in Thailand. Another one started working in West Africa where her TEFL certification wasn't required but she was so happy that she could be a great teacher because of what she learned from TEFLPros.

One grad is a retired man volunteering to teach in his spare time. A Filipino teacher was recently promoted because of her TEFLPros certification. Another woman is teaching Syrian refugees in Europe. I could go on and on...

If you could go on any program that your company offers, which one would you choose and why?

We only offer one so I would choose that! Haha. Actually, the choice to only offer one very specific certification (120-hour TEFL) was very much on purpose. Other companies have so many things going on and their online courses usually fall by the wayside and therefore lack in quality.

We noticed this happening and decided that we wanted to focus 100% on making our online course the best. Our attention to detail and specialized approach is what makes TEFLPros 120-hour certification different.

What makes your company unique? When were you especially proud of your team?

Wow so many things :) I'll just choose three. As I mentioned, TEFLPros doesn't have a bunch of irons in the fire so we can focus 100% of our energy on providing the best online course out there.

We aren't a big "TEFL Course Factory" so we can pay attention to our students as much or as little as they'd like. We want to create the closest thing to an in-person course, online. We also know that modern learners want something interactive and interesting which is why we have so many hours of video on our course.

Most importantly, we want our grads to be successful after they fly out of the TEFLPros nest. Graduates leave us with two certificates (one from us and one from Accreditat) and a full portfolio of lesson plans to show on interviews. We provide an interview and resume guide, job assistance, access to a closed Facebook group, and most importantly a fantastic education so you can KEEP the job once you get it.

What do you believe to be the biggest factor in being a successful company?

  • Caring about the customers and being attentive to their questions
  • Agility. Nowadays, if you can't adjust quickly to what's happening in the world, your company will sink. You have to be open to new ideas and new approaches.
  • Passion. If you aren't passionate about what you do, you will never become successful, not as a person and as a company. I know what it feels like to work a job that I hate. And with TEFLPros and teaching, I know what it feels like to work a job I LOVE.
