A 4-year degree is not required to take a TEFL class and it is possible to teach English abroad without a 4-year degree (particularly if you get a TEFL certification). There are some countries - like South Korea, Japan, and Dubai, for example - where it is basically a legal requirement that teachers possess a 4-year degree to get a visa to work legally as a teacher. That said, there are about 50 countries around the world where you can very viably get hired to teach English abroad, including many countries in Latin America & Europe in addition to some countries in Asia like Cambodia and even China (in some cases).
