A serious course for serious teachers.

I took the 120-hour Advanced TESOL Certificate course with the 20-hour TEYL Specialization. Once I completed the course, they helped me find a job teaching English online, which I was able to land within 3 weeks of graduating! They also helped me get a job in South Korea that I will be starting in June, so I would say that their job assistance program is excellent and their courses are broadly recognized.

I chose this course after reading all the positive reviews and because it is accredited by TESL Canada. I contemplated other online courses but this one seemed to be the best. I couldn't be happier with my decision.

What would you improve about this program?
Cannot think of anything. I rated their Academic Rigor 10/10, but it should be 15/10! It is a course that will challenge you to become a competent English teacher. ++

Worth the course

I liked that this course catered to my hectic schedule and that it was able to teach me new styles of teaching, lesson planning and improvements with my already existing teaching style. The tutors were available with any help or questions I had, and they were able to explain the material that I didn’t get. The practicum allowed me to be in real-life scenarios with students and was able to teach me problem-solving skills. Also, it made me more confident about myself and my abilities to teach various skills to my students. I liked it a lot! Good Experience overall!

What would you improve about this program?
Nothing that I could think of, but perhaps more staff to the job support team.

Intense and rewarding

This has been an intense and rewarding journey for me. I say this because TESOL /teaching is a complete departure from my educational background. This course now gives me the potential to launch out professionally in the field of TESOL and even become a member of TESL Canada as this body recognizes the program. It is a lot of handwork and rigor
especially with the volume of assignments. This has made me a product of quality set for the practical experience of all I have learned from Ontesol. The fact that I am now able to create meaningful lesson plans is the spring board I need to enter into the classroom. I must not fail to mention the patience and immense support from my tutors, it was remarkable. I just completed the program and have been immediately contacted by the Recruitment and Graduate Services department.
Thank you Ontesol!

What would you improve about this program?
I would have liked to have substantial online (real time) video tutoring sessions along with a bit of reduction in the volume of reading texts provided with this program.

Very Practical

What I liked the most was how practical the online course was. Every assignment built on the previous topic and prepared me to write full lesson plans that would come in very handy for the Practicum and the job. My first week on the job was made so much easier by this course, and my planning skills really showed up as I became more creative along the way. The tutor guided me along the way, providing clear feedback. Ontesol was really the best choice.

What would you improve about this program?
I really liked the videos with recorded ESL lessons in the video folder. I liked how they put captions throughout the video to show how the lesson plan becomes a real lesson. I wish they had a few more videos like these because they were very useful.

Competitive value, convenience, and quality

I started looking for online TESOL certifications when I realized I didn't have time to take off from my job teaching English in Korea to get a CELTA. After thoroughly researching all the options, I decided to enroll in Ontesol's 250 hour Diploma + Practicum, and I am so glad I did! Having the freedom to complete the program concurrent with my teaching schedule was so convenient and helpful. Even though the program is rigorous, Ontesol's curriculum is well-organized and digestible, and the tutors are extremely helpful. Emails were always answered in a timely matter, and my questions were always thoroughly explained. My husband got his MA in TESOL when I was completing Ontesol's program and I noticed a lot of overlap in the material both programs covered, so when the website says the 250 hour certification goes beyond CELTA level, it is definitely true. I learned so much during my 7 months completing the course that I decided to continue on and obtain the 20 hour Practicum. Ontesol was very helpful in working with me to find a qualified supervisor so I could complete the practicum while teaching my regular classes here in Korea. Not only does my Ontesol TESOL Diploma make me a more qualified teacher for jobs overseas, but because Ontesol is recognized by TESL Canada, I am one step closer to becoming a certified Canadian ESL teacher which will help my employment opportunities when I do decide to return to North America eventually.

I really cannot recommend the Ontesol program enough for its high quality, convenience and great overall value. It is a great investment for any ESL instructor, regardless of location or prior qualifications. Thanks!

I Did The TESOL Certificate and Practicum

I completed the TESOL certificate and the Practicum with OnTESOL in Toronto. I am very happy with the quality of the course and the support I received from both my tutors. It was an intensive course and it took me about 2 months to do the whole thing. The online portion was very useful because it prepared me for the lesson plans I had to do during the Practicum portion. I had to take the Practicum to get TESL Canada accreditation and I would really recommend it to anyone who is considering starting a career because the feedback from the teacher trainer is very valuable. It really helps if you are a new teacher!

What would you improve about this program?
The course had about 12 videos and 3 of them are full ESL lessons. These videos helped a lot to see how a lesson plan becomes an ESL class because they are integrated with the assignments. I would recommend producing more of these videos!

120 hour TEFL and TEYL

This was a helpful course with knowledgable and helpful tutors. The first few units were a little easy, in my opinion, but the later ones were a bit more challenging and contained some useful content about lesson frameworks in particular. I've already begun testing out some of the ideas from the course on my own students and think that having done this course has made my own teaching better. Thanks again!

What would you improve about this program?
I found some of the content at the beginning of the course a bit easy and not so helpful - the later content was much better, particularly the TEYL module. I would have preferred more rigorous content about understanding how people learn and some content about classroom control or other common problems teachers may encounter.

Great course and support!

OnTESOL is an outstanding institute that greatly prepared me to be in the classroom. Throughout each module, explanations of concepts were clear and thorough. I loved taking the course at my own pace which allowed me to absorb the information thoroughly. Assignments were structured in a way that challenged me to think about what I would actually do if I were in a classroom, making the learning experience all that more experiential.

OnTESOL’s assignments prepared me to be observant, analytical and organized for my practicum. I noticed how students’ different learning styles impact the way I teach. The lesson planning was perfect because it gave me a sense of how much time I will need to prepare and what details to look out for when preparing. My tutor’s support was so helpful as he provided me with his own personal perspective on teaching and how he structures his classroom. I was amazed at the support I received to get a job in Toronto. OnTESOL matched me and set up interviews with four different institutes in the city!

Worth it!

After my first year teaching, I managed to land a job in the very best school in my town. I was under a lot of pressure as I would go from working in a small laid-back academy to a top school with much higher standards. I felt ill-equiped so I decided to train during the summer. After careful research, I chose OnTESOL.
I was happy with every aspect of the course. The curriculum was well balanced, very detailed and, most importantly, interesting! My personal tutor was attentive and helpful. I learned so much from this course that I can safely say it is the one reason I ended up being so successful in my new job.

A comprehensive and challenging course

This Diploma Program is very comprehensive and challenging. The sections are well laid out and the format is easy to follow. The workload is intense but well worth the effort. The acquired knowledge is invaluable for new (or existing) instructors, with many new or vamped up tools for lesson planning. I found the phonology module especially well written, supported with videos and additional resources, and very helpful when teaching sounds, to lower level students. Tutor support was always readily available with advise and tips. I am very satisfied with this course and still incorporate learned techniques into my current lessons.

What would you improve about this program?
Some page numbers were mixed up so a bit of confusion existed when tracking (for review). I would suggest a portal for students to advise the administrators of any misprints or errors found in the modules.
