Intern Colombia Virtual Internship

My experience with Intern Colombia has been a really good one! I was worried that with the pandemic I wouldn't be able to get an intership, but they were able to help get me an internship in Colombia with a design studio which has been amazing! I was very surprised by all the knowledge and experience I gained, as well as all the meaningful connections that I have made! This has by far exceded my expectations, and would 100% recommend to anyone looking to gain a valuable experience, make connections, and meet new people!

Virtual Internship Review

Hi ! My name is Mike from Texas and I did a virtual internship. I was partnered with Biz Latin Hub for a social media marketing internship and I had a very great experience. I learned a lot about international business relations and how to market a company on social media. Intern Colombia was very helpful in helping me find this internship and always checked up on me and offered virtual cultural imersion programs. I did a virtual language exchange program. It was really fun and I was able to meet people from all over the world ! I hope to intern in person in the future and be able to visit Colombia this summer or at some point all depending on the ongoing situation of the world.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
To be able to go in person if there was not an ongoing pandemic.

Amazing Marketing Internship

I had an amazing experience with Intern Colombia. From the beginning, they put a lot of thought and effort into finding an internship that really suited me. They were always super helpful with any questions or doubts I had. My marketing internship really helped develop my skills and it gave me very valuable experience. During my time in Bogotá, Intern Colombia were always in contact with me and the other interns, organizing social events that would get us out and about exploring the city. I couldn't have asked for a better experience; I highly recommend Intern Colombia if you are thinking about doing an internship in Colombia. I would also highly recommend Colombia if you are thinking about doing an internship abroad. It's a beautiful country, rich in culture and with delicious food.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to go out and explore. Colombia has an unfortunate and inaccurate reputation of being really dangerous. Don't let fear lock you inside because you will be missing out on a lot of amazing things. And one of the best parts about being part of a program like Intern Colombia is that you get to explore and go on adventurous with people you known you can trust.

Great experience and excellent company to work with!

I had planned on going to Colombia over the summer, but due to the guidelines around Covid-19 I wasn't able to travel. Intern Colombia helped me adapt my plans and start a remote internship. During the ever-changing Covid-19 situation, they did a great job of communicating consistently and keeping me updated with their plans. They matched me with an awesome organization that's helping me get the exact type of work experience I was looking for and have been checking in to make sure everything is going well. Even though it's remote, they have been organizing virtual cultural events to build community and ensure the experience is as great as it can be. Definitely recommend!

My experience from Colombia.

Taking classes at La Javeriana, having an internship with a nonprofit which allowed me to help and teach baseball to children all across the country, as well as creating friendships I'll maintain for the rest of my life. These are just a few of the things I got out of my program with Intern Colombia. They helped manage and set up the best 3 months of my life, and something I will reminisce upon for years to come. I hope to make it back to Colombia sometime in the coming years to not only meet up with old friends, but to explore even more of the beautiful country that is Colombia.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Don't be afraid to "try" to speak Spanish. I came into this program only with 2 semesters worth of college spanish; and was nearly fluent by the time I left. The Colombian people are incredibly friendly, helpful, and fun to say the least. They will try to help you learn if you are willing to learn and try your best.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
On my first full day in Bogotá I was able to go on a fruit tour organised by Intern Colombia at Paloquemao Market. In the space of a couple of hours I must have tried about 30 different fruits, including things such as chontaduro which I had never seen before!

Great adventure

Thanks to the InternColombia I had an opportunity to find internship in Colombia. It was my the most incredible time. Amazing adventures and friendships for life. From the very beginning, also during internship and at the end I could get support and help at all time. This was very important because I finished my work during dificult time of coronavirus. InternColombia is very professional organization. I recommend it to everyone who dreams of meeting Colombian culture and at the same time gains work experience.

I would take advantage of being in Latin America to travel more around there. I would also keep in better touch with the people I met there and try to maintain contact with them.

Intern Colombia

I was introduced to Intern Colombia (I.C.) through my university's study abroad program and working with them easily became my most rewarding collegiate experience. During my 10 week study abroad in Bogotá, I.C. opened the door for professional opportunities with Fundación Tiempo de Juego, provided incredible cultural immersions that displayed the diverse history of not only Bogotá but Colombia as a whole, and gave me the best international family I could have ever asked for.

Through all of my fears and hesitations, the I.C. team was there every step of the way to reassure me and provide support in a completely foreign environment from housing to navigation to life lessons. I.C. did all they could to help me flourish as a global citizen.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you choose this program be open to stepping outside of your comfort zone. Growth happens when you push yourself a little past your perceived limitations and it's always better to know you definitely don't like something from experience rather than allowing yourself to always operate on "what if's". Culture shock in a new place can either ease in slowly or hit you like a truck but if you allow yourself to keep an open mind I guarantee you will almost always have the time of your life!

Incredible Opportunity

I spent 10 weeks doing an internship in Human Rights and Childcare and it was the best time of my life. I felt like I was actually learning and being helpful to the kids at the Fundación. Intern Colombia did a great job of pairing with a place that met all my needs and provide me with great connections.

I am thankful for the people I met through the program and the activities and trips we had that allowed us to explore Colombia even more and get to know other people.

The place stayed at for three months was great too. I was nervous at first because of the commute from my place to my internship was long and it was in a very different neighborhood. But in the end, it was one of my favorite things because it allowed me to explore more, learn to really take public transportation (which I think it's crazy but good haha).

Be open to new experiences, and meeting new people. Feeling a bit uncomfortable at first is good, you can learn a lot not only about yourself but your surroundings and a different culture.

What would you improve about this program?
I would improve communication, especially when it comes to events. So people can better prepare for the event and how much money will they have to spend etc.
