Studying Cities, Living Sustainability.

I participated in the Summer School “Urban Sustainability, Engage in the Future” at Masaryk University, and it was a very meaningful and memorable experience for me. Before joining the program, I expected mainly lectures about sustainability, urban planning, and environmental issues. However, the course turned out to be much more practical, interactive, and engaging than I imagined.

What I liked most about this summer school was its hands on approach. Instead of only listening to lectures, we worked in international groups, did field observations, site visits, and real life case studies. We explored urban spaces, talked about real problems cities face today, and tried to propose solutions together. This made the learning process more interesting and easier to understand, even for students from different academic backgrounds.

The academic content was well organized and balanced. Field activities and group projects were the most interesting parts for me. Working with students from many countries helped me see urban sustainability from different cultural and social perspectives. Everyone brought their own experience, ideas, and opinions, which made discussions richer and more meaningful. I also improved my communication skills and learned how to work better in a multicultural team.

Another highlight of the program was the study trips. During the summer school, we visited several cities, including Bratislava in Slovakia, Prague in the Czech Republic, and Vienna in Austria. In each city, we joined guided city walks focused on urban sustainability, climate adaptation, and community planning. These trips helped us understand how different cities approach similar challenges in different ways. Seeing theory applied in real urban environments was very valuable.

Life in Brno itself was also a great experience. The city is clean, well organized, and easy to navigate with public transportation. The atmosphere was calm but lively at the same time. People were polite and friendly, and Masaryk University provided a very supportive environment for international students. Everything from accommodation to activities was well managed.

In addition to academic activities, the program included many non academic events, such as a boat party, folklore dancing, wine tasting, and swimming. These activities helped us relax, connect with each other, and build friendships outside the classroom. I met many amazing people from around the world, and we shared not only knowledge but also culture, stories, and everyday experiences.

Overall, this summer school gave me much more than academic knowledge. It helped me grow personally, become more confident, and gain international experience. I would strongly recommend this program to students who are interested in sustainability, cities, and working in an international environment. It is a great opportunity to learn, travel, and connect with people while gaining practical skills for the future.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising experience for me was traveling and studying abroad independently for the first time. It was also my first time visiting Europe, which made everything feel new and deeply impactful.
Because our program involved a lot of walking and outdoor activities, I was able to closely observe everyday European life from how people use public spaces to the architectural style of buildings. The urban environment, lifestyle, and rhythm of daily life felt very different from what I am used to in Mongolia, and this contrast was both surprising and fascinating.
I was especially impressed by how accessible basic urban infrastructure is. For example, people freely drink tap water, and public drinking fountains are available throughout the city. On hot days, mist spraying systems installed in public spaces help cool pedestrians, which showed how thoughtfully cities respond to climate and human comfort.
Looking back, these first time experiences left a strong impression on me. They changed how I see cities and everyday life, and they made this summer school truly unforgettable. I am deeply grateful for the opportunity and would gladly take part in a similar experience again if given the chance.
Pros
  • Strong international environment- learning and working with students from many countries broadened perspectives.
  • Well-organized program- academic content, trips, accommodation, and activities were smoothly integrated.
  • Personal growth- The program builds confidence, teamwork skills, and motivation to work in international and interdisciplinary settings.
Cons
  • Limited time to explore some cities independently due to a structured program.

An Amazing Summer School in Central Europe

My experience at Masaryk University Summer School was awesome; 100% recommended. You'll learn interesting topics from amazing lecturers, know people from around the world, taste delicious Czech food, and Brno is super open to international students, safe, and its transportation is efficient and easy to use, and also you are very well connected to the other central European countries if you want to visit other places. In my opinion, Central Europe is underrated, and this program is perfect to know this part of the world.

I'm very grateful to the team of the international office of Masaryk University because they were very kind and attentive with me.

(Try Svíčková; it's delicious.)

International Security Program

I attended the summer program of International Security at Mazaryk University during the summer of 2025. It was an incredible journey, both at the academic and human levels. The classes were very interesting, you could see how passionate the teachers were, and they always involved the students hands-in to make the topics as practical as they were theoretical. The classes were quite challenging, though. We missed many afternoon activities because of the readings we had to prepare for the next day's test. Nonetheless, this experience really was fantastic, especially for the people I met there. Having so many people with different nationalities, from different backgrounds, at different stages in their lives in the class really allowed us to have many interesting debates. To this day, the people I met there are still some of my best friends, regardless of where they are in the world. I definitely recommend this program to any student looking for some international experience, who wants to visit a few countries in Europe, and who wants to learn and have fun at the same time.

What was your funniest moment?
If you ever go to Brno for one of Mazaryk University's program, I would definitely recommend going to the supermarket and buying a jar of pickles there. Weirdly enough, those were the best pickles I have ever tasted. Every night before going to bed, we all met in one of the kitchens or on a balcony to have what will forever be remembered as "Pickle Parties" with all of the other students from the group. 100% recommend!
Pros
  • Academically enightening
  • Visted so many different cities in one single trip
  • Met amazing people from all around the world
Cons
  • Not long enough
  • Academically challenging so don't think it will be a walk in the park

An amazing experience

I spent two weeks in Brno participating in Masaryk University’s summer course for 2 weeks during July 2025, “AI and Digital Marketing,” and it was a truly memorable experience, both educational and enjoyable.

The city of Brno made a strong impression on me. From the very first day, the city felt welcoming: it was easy to navigate, vibrant, and full of character. Its rich history is visible throughout, and it is something the city continues to proudly showcase.

During my stay, I enjoyed exploring the city center, visiting local cafés and restaurants, and taking time to experience Brno’s cultural and historical landmarks. I also found it to be an excellent place to meet new people and make friends that would last a lifetime. The city offers a genuine sense of warmth from locals alongside a strong international energy that brings people from many places together. As a result, it was easy to feel welcomed and included, even over such a short period.

The two weeks left me with very positive impressions of Brno. I would gladly return, and I would warmly recommend the city to anyone considering a short stay, whether for studies, work, or simply to experience a vibrant and breathtaking Central European city.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
If you ever plan to travel to Brno and want a smoother journey, I would recommend going via Vienna and taking the train from there. Traveling by train from Prague to Brno can be surprisingly demanding. My first mistake was choosing that route and cost me my money and sanity.

Overall, I think it was worth it if you want to get to Brno

This summer school was truly a highlight of my summer! The program was very well organized, and from the start it was easy to settle in thanks to clear communication and supportive organizers. Brno itself was a great place to study abroad. It’s a lively city with plenty to explore. The cultural activities and trips made it easy to experience Czech culture and get to know other students. I’d definitely recommend this program if you’re looking for a short but enriching summer abroad that balances academics, culture, and social life.

Summer School 2025

It was a very well-organized summer school. Everything was planned, communicated, and you could just enjoy the experience. All the additional activities were very interesting, fun, and enjoyable, allowing you to integrate and not feel lonely (if you are traveling alone). I have no regrets.

You have a place to cook for yourself or for a group, or you can choose something in town. There is also a large selection of food on campus.

Communication with the organizers is very good. In addition, the classes were prepared in a very interesting way.

Brno is generally a very beautiful city, but if you don't like hills, think twice.

Review about Summer school

This summer school in the Czech Republic was truly one of the best academic and cultural experiences I have ever had. From the very first day until the end of the program, everything was extremely well organised, making it easy for all participants to focus on learning, building friendships, and enjoying every moment without any stress.

One of the strongest points of this summer school was the excellent organization. All schedules, classes, workshops, cultural activities, and excursions were clearly planned and communicated in advance. There was always someone available to help whenever we had a question or needed guidance. The smooth coordination between academic sessions and social activities made the entire experience both productive and enjoyable.

The academic content of the program was very interesting and practical. The lectures were delivered by knowledgeable and passionate instructors who encouraged participation and discussion. Even difficult topics were explained in a simple and engaging way. I felt that I gained not only theoretical knowledge but also useful practical insights that will definitely help me in my future studies and career.

Apart from academics, the social environment was incredibly welcoming. Participants came from different countries and cultures, which made the experience more enriching. We were encouraged to work in groups, share ideas, and learn from each other. This created a friendly atmosphere where everyone felt included and valued. I was able to make many new friends and build connections that I hope will last for a long time.

I would especially like to express my sincere gratitude to the organisers, particularly Adam and Petr. They were always kind, supportive, and approachable. No matter how small the issue was, they handled everything with patience and professionalism. Their positive attitude and constant availability made all participants feel safe and comfortable. It is clear that they truly care about the students and put a lot of effort into making the program successful.

The cultural activities and excursions were another highlight of the summer school. We had the opportunity to explore beautiful places in the Czech Republic, learn about its history, and experience the local culture. These trips were well arranged and allowed us to relax while also learning something new. They perfectly balanced the academic part of the program.

Overall, this summer school was an unforgettable experience. It helped me grow academically, socially, and personally. I returned home with new knowledge, wonderful memories, and a deeper appreciation for international education and cultural exchange. I would highly recommend this summer school to anyone who is looking for a well-organised, inspiring, and enjoyable learning experience. I am extremely grateful for everything and will always remember this program as a very special chapter of my life.

Summer Internship Review

This was by far the best experience I have ever had. First, it helped me with my academic development by being able to be in a laboratory setting everyday and gaining valuable experience. My colleagues were incredible helpful during my time in lab and helped me learn many new things. Being in an entire different country also helped me become more independent. Everything around you is different whether is be the people or language so it is great experience. Finally, the program gives tons of freedom to do whatever you want so being able to travel anywhere is amazing.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Make the most out of your experience. Go some place every weekend whether it is just exploring Brno or going to a completely different country.

Czech Heritage at Masaryk University 2025

This course was the best experience. I had never been overseas before, and I figured having the summer school experience on the other side of the world would be a good experience. Not only did I make friends that I will cherish for my life, and we still talk to this day, but it was incredible to learn and witness the different cultures the world has to offer. The housing made for a great experience as well, and the excursions were phenomenal and related to course content perfectly. My professors, Petr and Athena, were such a pleasure to meet and made the experience that much better. If you ever plan to do a summer course overseas, I could not recommend a better course.

What was your funniest moment?
We had visited a museum as part of the course to learn about Czechia during the late 1800s and 1900s. We followed the life of a young woman throughout the years to understand what real life was like. This resulted in me having to dress the part, complete with a corset, a big gown, a parasol, and a hat - the works. The funniest part, I was the only one who had to dress up. I embodied the role as if I were an actress, and my friends thought it was the funniest thing. The number of photos they took could be an album on its own.
Pros
  • Beautiful scenery and historical sites.
  • Incredible and affordable food.
  • Such a fun night life.
Cons
  • No air conditioning in housing units.
