The program was unique because it was not only an internship but there were also integrated activities that allowed you to meet other people from other programs while also exploring eastern Europe. Some of the best bonding and real life learning experiences were from the scheduled weekend trips. From navigating a language barrier to the public transit, I notice I use the confidence and skills I learned in a foreign country in my every day life back in America. I no longer feel overwhelmed by the unknown, but look at it as a new and exciting adventure.

What was your funniest moment?
Being abroad with my best friend from home and meeting so many new people does not allow me to pinpoint one event. One of my favorite moments was the first weekend when the group of new people got to go to a roof top restaurant in Vienna with a view of the city. It was a great way to meet everyone and take in the views of the city.
Pros
  • Traveling to new places
  • Gaining confidence with a language barrier
  • Meeting new people
Cons
  • The housing was not very clean

Great Experience at Masaryk University

The University of Masaryk Team did a great job creating a welcoming and social environment that makes you feel comfortable despite being thousands of miles away from home. The program does a great job at offering engaging and interesting events on a daily basis that give you a sense of the culture and life abroad in the Czech Republic. The entire team was super welcoming and nice and always a host of knowledge and information. I would definitely recommend the program to all those interested and if I had to do it all over again I would 100% take it again.

Review of Sports Sciences and Outdoor Education

The summer school was one of the best things in my summer!

The courses I had were out of many fields, yet all of them had connection with 'Sport'. Thus, I got to learn and experience from a very broad point of view. I loved that every day was different and that we had courses outside of classroom too. We got to see what sport possibilities Brno has outdoor, during summer.

I enjoyed the extra curricular activites a lot! They were really well-organised and matched to our interests. It was also a great opportunity to get to know the others more.

Brno is really a welcoming and student-friendly city, it's really worth it to discover. :)

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Use your time wisely, and make the best of your time there, because the whole programme will fly away really fast!
Pros
  • Fun courses
  • Cute city
  • Well planned

Great Program

Adam and crew were great hosts and provided a really good atmosphere for group learning. Highly recommended for anybody who wants to experience the Czech culture while also learning from a motivated group of educators.

The group interactive events are good for younger students and the main get-together events were also fun.

The professors have a lot of experience teaching to a wide audience with people from differing cultures, as this program has been around for several years.

From an older American graduate student perspective, the lodging was a little underwhelming and air conditioning in all classrooms and lodging would be a good addition to the program for the future.

Very good program!

Lovely memory

The Experience for me is a lovely memory. Why?

Because you get to know the City of Brno, as well as other cities during the weekend Trips. All of them suprised me way beyond my expectations. The lecturers as well as all the people that Supported and managed the Programm were really engaged and did their best to make this experience even more enjoyable.

The participants of the course became friends. You get to know people from all over the World. And through that you get really good reasons to visit their home countries as well :) . Besides all of the great experiences comes an great Academic part with an interesting project. We got to know man Experts from different fields that might be involved.

Overall: Of course it was an Academic trip, but is far beyond that. For me its a lovely memory. I would do it a second and even a third time and have already recommended it to many people I know.

I love Masaryk University !!!

I am so glad to join this summer exchange program, which inspired my whole life that Europe is that amazing and gorgeous !! Also, I want to thank all the staffs who help me a lot and through the trip, I learnt to be independent and extrovert enough for facing any challenges in life even in a stranger place!! Once again, thank you Petr, Adam and Jitka. Besides, I want to say Czech has one of the best food in the world that I can taste different type of traditional dishes through a month and the diverse nationality society is so nice that I feel like I am living in my hometown.

Brno and Masaryk University: Where Culture Meets Learning

My experience at Masaryk University in Brno was one of the most enriching and memorable journeys of my academic life. Attending the European winter school there gave me the opportunity to combine rigorous learning with unforgettable cultural immersion. The university itself impressed me with its modern approach to teaching, particularly in areas of human rights and EU law, which were delivered in an engaging way that encouraged reflection and discussion across different cultural perspectives. What made the program stand out was not only the academic depth but also the exposure to real-world institutions—we had the chance to visit the United Nations and various NGOs, which gave valuable insights into the practical side of international law and governance. Beyond academics, Brno itself was a beautiful and welcoming city. I still remember the charm of its old town, the friendly student atmosphere, and the magical sight of the city covered in snow, which was an entirely new experience for me. The program also allowed me to explore more of Europe, with visits to Vienna, Budapest, Prague, and even London, each city adding another layer to my understanding of history, culture, and global connections. Highlights included attending the planetarium in Brno, enjoying folklore dancing, and discovering how cultural traditions continue to shape communities today. These activities not only broadened my perspective but also brought together students from around the world, creating a strong sense of belonging and friendship. For me, the most valuable part of this journey was the balance it offered—serious academic growth combined with moments of joy, discovery, and cross-cultural exchange. It was a period where I learned not just from books and lectures, but from conversations, experiences, and the simple act of stepping outside my comfort zone. Brno and Masaryk University gave me more than just knowledge; they gave me confidence, lifelong connections, and memories I will always treasure. I would wholeheartedly recommend this experience to anyone seeking to expand their horizons, both personally and academically, because it truly demonstrates how studying abroad can shape the person you are and the professional you aspire to become.

What was the most surprising thing you saw or did?
The most surprising thing I saw was Brno covered in snow—it was my first time experiencing a real winter, and the city looked absolutely magical.
Pros
  • High-quality academic program with practical exposure (UN and NGO visits).
  • Vibrant student city with affordable living and friendly atmosphere.
  • Opportunities for cultural immersion and international friendships.
Cons
  • Cold winter weather was challenging to adjust to (some people)
  • Language barrier in daily life outside the university.
  • Intensive schedule left little free time for rest (some days).

Nice experience

The activities were nice, and the places we stayed at were actually pretty good. The study load was good and not too heavy; we still had time to have fun.

The professors were great, I really felt like I had learned something new. The structure of the course was well done, not too heavy yet still helpful. I loved that there wasn’t too much group work.

Further, the place we stayed at was clean. We had enough free time. It was exactly like they recommended and they described it.

The extra activities did not disappoint.

Pros
  • So many new friends
  • Lot of free time
  • Nice activities
Cons
  • Not super luxe

An amazing experience!

I attended the winter school the year after I completed my undergraduate degree. I thought I would be a little out of my depth as I was a politics student taking the international law course. While I did find it a bit challenging at first this was exactly what I wanted from this course! It really helped me with to expand on my previous knowledge and gain some new perspectives.

Aside from the academic parts, I cannot underestimate how fun this course was. From the wonderful lecturers and admin team to the brilliant tour guides - I enjoyed every second of my time at Masaryk. I had the opportunity to meet some amazing people with similar interests to mine and I can say that I have made friends for life. If you’re considering doing this - just go for it! You won’t regret it

What would you improve about this program?
My only criticism is that I would like the course to be slightly longer. With the weekend trips and assignments, the whole thing goes by so quickly!
Pros
  • Highly engaging course content
  • Chance to meet amazing people & make new friends
  • Experience of studying abroad
Cons
  • I now want to move to Brno
