Expectations exceeded

My experience with Mente Argentina could not have been any better. I did the internship program and was able to combine that with some Spanish lessons as well. I had the chance to be flexible and switch between Spanish courses according to what would fit best. Furthermore I was assisted throughout the whole program. I received valuable information regarding public transport and other and was assigned to a lovely shared apartment in a great location. The staff was very supportive and always at your disposal. To top it all off Mente organized lovely trips where I was able to get to know the city better and meet other international people. I recommend the program without reservation!

Pros
  • 24/7 assistance
  • Flexibility to build your best program
  • Supportive staff that organizes activities
Cons
  • Some difficulty to get money from Western Union

My Mente Experience

I have nothing but positive acclamation for my experience with Mente. During my time with Mente, I did the intensive Spanish program for 3 months and I loved it. VOS (the Spanish school) help my Spanish immensely. With small classes I never had more than 5 in my class. This gave me the opportunity to speak more during class. Which really helped my Spanish improve. The school also had fun activities during and after class that allowed us to explore the city and practice our Spanish in a real life setting. I loved all of my teacher because they were all very personable and willing to put in the extra work when you we struggling. After the first week, it felt like a family.

Life with Mente really allowed me to explore new foods, new parts of the city, and meet fellow people from Mente. Each week there is at least one or two dinners and/or activities that Mente puts on and pays for. I always took advantage of the free food and activities. The program coordinators were the best. They are all young and have been in the city for quite some time so they give you a little bit of a locals perspective. I made a lot of great memories and friends with these meetings.

The housing is simple. They give you all of the essentials which was perfect for me. If I ever had an issue, the program had it fix with in a day or two as well so that was very comforting. The program also gives a lot assistance in pretty much all aspects including providing a public transportation pass which gets you pretty much every where you want to go. They also have detailed maps to/from school, hospitals, Mente headquarters, and your housing. All of the housings are in safe areas. Going to a big city in South America, I was a bit concerned about safety, but I always felt safe in my apartment and out on the streets around my apartment.

I think that this program really gave you, your money’s worth. You Could totally find your own housing and a school/language program on your own but I feel like sense the security of this program and how stress free I felt from the moment they picked me up from the airport made it 100% worth it. You can really take the security of your own city and culture for granted, so having a program to ease the transition made all of the difference in the world. Highly recommended!

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
I wouldn’t have brought so much stuff! BA is a great hub to travel South America during weekend trips(or after your programs as well) so it is best to go with the bare minimum. I also went during the summer and it is very hot so you don’t really need any warm clothes. If you travel to Patagonia you will need warm clothes though

Don't Worry!

chose Mente after a lot of internet research, but really, one feels very nervous when they are spending a good chunk of money and then just hoping beyond hope that you have chosen the best overseas study program. What a relief it was to be hosted in Buenos Aires by the professional, fun and kind staff at Mente. They know what they are doing and they took care of everything I needed. My apartment was awesome and in a great (and safe!) part of town only a few blocks from the Mente head office. I stopped in for one thing or another and even though the advisors would be busy working, they always had time to help me and really make me feel at home. It gave me great comfort to learn that I could rely on them. From getting me a toaster to a toilet plunger, a blender and helping me book my weekend excursions and even helping me with my Spanish homework – the staff at Mente are tireless. The anxiety I had about being in a big city with beginner Spanish skills melted away the first couple of days when I knew I would be able to count on my new friends at Mente. The outings they plan for the group are so fun (and included in your fee!!), the University Spanish course I took was in a nice school and I was pleased with the whole experience. (I just received my official transcript from the University of BA) and the teachers and staff were just simply nice, accommodating, helpful and lovely. For one month I experienced the best of Argentina and because everything went off without a hitch, it will remain one of the best experiences of my entire lifetime.

Amazing program!!

I participated in their intensive Spanish and tango programs on a 3 week visit to Buenos Aires. Mente made the experience phenomenal! From the time that I signed up for the program to when I left Buenos Aires, I had all the support I could need from maps, sim card, help with navigating Buenos Aires and more. I was very happy with my host family that they matched, and the Spanish and Tango courses that they organized.
They also organized many group activities ranging from museum visits, picnics, day trips outside of BA, concerts, football games and great lunches which helped me meet not only other travelers but also locals. I had an amazing experience with my host family, learned a lot of Spanish, got to try many cultural Argentinian activities and explore Buenos Aires all in 3 weeks. Highly recommend Mente Argentina for solo travelers and those seeking a full immersion program and want to experience all that Buenos Aires has to offer!

I underestimated how cold it would be in Buenos Aires in August, bring a heavy winter coat and warm sweaters if you are travelling in the winter months!

Exceeded Expectations

My time in Buenos Aires was phenomenal. The Spanish classes were great, the networking events were well put together, and the internship with a local non-profit was an incredible experience. I would recommend this program without reservations. The city of Buenos Aires is a great place to travel and there is plenty to do and lots of ways to have fun over a long period of time. The arts and architecture are great. The parks are lovely and provide a nice escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. The cafes and restaurants are amazing. The neighborhood of Palermo has plenty to offer by itself.

What was the most unfamiliar thing you ate?
The food in Argentina was really good. I especially loved the parrillas, also known as the grilled meats. The mate tea was great. Fernet and Coke. Provoleta or fried cheese. Milanesa. Medialunas. I love it all.

Great Program

My time with Mente was an all-around great experience. Not only did Mente help coordinate an amazing homestay and Spanish immersion program, but they also organized constant group activities so participants could get to know each other while exploring some of the best spots in Buenos Aires.

They took care of all the little things like providing me with a local SIM and SUBTE card, and Mente even let me store some bags in their office while I went backpacking throughout other parts of South America.

I learned a ton of Spanish, felt comfortable throughout my entire stay, and met interesting people from all around the world. Highly recommend to anyone considering an immersion program.

Best way to experience BA!

Mente Argentina did a great job of coordinating events that are truly unique to Buenos Aires. Program coordinators were always willing to lend a helping hand and answer any questions that I had throughout my time in the city. Mente also arranged for my pick up and drop off at the airport, provided me with a SIM card to use during my stay and a SUBTE card to use public transportation. They also did a fantastic job of matching me with a great host family! Would recommend this program to anyone looking to travel to Argentina.

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Take advantage of all of the the events that Mente puts on!

Would go back any time

Mente gave me a warm welcome in Argentina, they organised my arrival and already prepared a sim and metro card. The apartment was wonderful and had a rooftop terrace, I could not wish for something better 🤩 The volunteering program and weekly activities they organised were a lot a fun! We did an escape room, had a picnic in the park, had some nice lunches and went for some drinks. If you are looking for a nice volunteering opportunity while meeting people from all over the world Mente is the right choice 😀

What is your advice to future travelers on this program?
Buenos Aires is a nice and safe city, I never felt unsafe.

Mente 4-week Wine Program

I did a 4-week Wine Program with Mente Argentina in July 2019 which I would highly recommend. The wine school was excellent and I learnt so much in a very short space of time. The program schedule fit me perfectly – I had plenty of free time to explore the city during the day and the fact that you are able to choose the duration of the program yourself to fit your needs/requirements was one of the main reasons I chose Mente.

I was very pleased with the level of communication I received from the Program Advisors, both prior to my trip and during my time in Buenos Aires. Nothing was too much trouble and they were always available to answer any questions. They regularly arranged meet-ups and events where you got to meet other Mente participants, converse in your native language and experience the local culture. This was a big plus, especially as a solo traveller on a completely foreign continent.

Although Mente’s programs seem to be aimed at students I was very impressed to see people of different ages from all walks of life, all of whom came to Buenos Aires to have their own unique experience.

(I arranged my own accommodation via Airbnb so cannot comment on housing.)

All in all, highly recommended. I definitely got what I came for and would happily return.

Great Experience!!!

I travel very often and Mente Argentina has set the bar very high. Mente placed me with the perfect internship for my Master’s program. My internship was with Chacras de Buenos Aires which focused on sustainable development. I was educated on better ways we can improve the environment. Also, the affordability, housing, and excursions was an amazing bonus. My housing was very spacious, I had my own room and my housemates have become people I now call friends. My housing was in prime location in Palermo. I felt close to everything I will ever need. The staff was very friendly and accommodating to anything I needed. The public transportation is very easy to use once you get the hang of it. Overall, I had an amazing experience and made friendship with individuals from all over.

If you did this all over again, what's one thing you would change?
If I did it all over. I would stay longer than two months. Although, two months seems long it is not compared to all there is to do in Buenos Aires!!!
