Thoughts

I love meeting people here from all over the world. Definitely an eye opening experience, the weather and beaches are also fabulous.. My co-workers are awesome I am so happy with where I was placed and I love the city, not anything like I expected. My program people are very good at responding to emails if I have any questions. I would recommend to anyone, best decision!!

What would you improve about this program?
I disliked how the program promised to help find housing and while I received a bunch of info on different places to live in the city, I thought I was going to have a place to live before coming to Sydney and was very scared not having that all sorted out before coming, it turned out to be fine but just thought the promise of housing wasnt fulfilled how I thought it would be

Lifetime experience

This experience was absolutely amazing! The program gives a really good opportunity to go overseas and work. It is nice to know that once you get here you are not totally alone when you face either work issues or difficulties with the people you live with. Coming from Canada was quite a big thig and language was not a total issue, but sometimes it could be hard. Although everyone was bringing really good support, whether it was with talking over the phone, messages to give feedback or just to see that everything was okay or even postcard correspondence. It was absolutely great to feel like you are not just one random person that that you get personal support.

The negative point that I could see is related to prices of the program itself. No doubts that there is an incredible support from everyone with feedbacks, but once you get here you find out how easy it can be to find yourself a job around and that the agency does not find you a place to live, it is staff accommodation that are already in place with the workplace. Either it was a misunderstanding from my part, but I did feel like with the program they strange everything for it but it's not totally it. Same thing regarding the minimum hours of work that was outline in the "contract"... Even if mentioned to coordinators, I've never heard back from it and had few weeks with less than te minimum hours.

Even though I have few negative points, I do recommend the program,BUT not to people that have travelled before and that either organized everything themselves or either love unplanned adventure. The program is amazing for new travellers that might be afraid to leave or that need all the support that they can get.

What would you improve about this program?
As mentioned above I dot think that price paid makes sense if you look back to what you've got. All the paperwork was really long and seems like it wasn't very worth it or even used at workplace.

Thank you very much!

It was truly once in a lifetime experience! Excellent! Every staff was helpful, and everything was perfect. The Taxback staff was very helpful, and professional. Everything was so perfect that I hope this standard lasts for forever. I think it might be difficult to keep this standard, because it is too perfect. Far beyond the expectation. Thank you so much for giving me this precious once in a lifetime experience!!!

My Oz Experience

I came to Australia as a sort of gap year while I applied for jobs in my own country.

I did my first placement in QLD up in Townsville. People rag on Townsville whenever I tell them I lived there for 6 months but I really loved my time there and I made some friends I know will be a part of my life for many years to come.

It was also really cool to be a positive representative for my country. I had a roommate that told me I totally changed his ideas of what an American was, haha.

After Townsville I travelled down the East coast (Amazing!) to find my second job in Melbourne.

I planned on just working, saving up money and making some new friends but I ended up getting so much more than I expected out of it. I came in to meet the AAI team in Melbourne and because my degree is in International Education I ended up interning for them for the rest of my time in Oz. I gained so much valuable experience and learned so many things that will benefit me in my career for years to come!

Coming to Australia with AAI was a great decision!

Slice of Paradise

Hands down - the best experience of my life. I was fortunate enough to be placed in Coral Bay, Western Australia. A small tourist town remotely located in the northwest part of the state, boasting some of the best beaches and marine life interactions anywhere. The job I was selected for was reception at a caravan park, but there were times when I was asked to do housekeeping and other times where I was asked to be a deckie on a boat for a day. Swim with mantas? For a job?! Um, yes please!

The accommodation is basic.. .and by basic, I mean a box of a room with a bed and a wardrobe. Rusting showers and toilets and cockroaches living in the kitchen. Did I care? No. It was different than I expected, but knowing about remote locations before my travels here, I grew to really enjoy my accommodation and place of stay. No one in town lives fancy... if you're looking for city life - make sure you ask to be placed in a city. Otherwise, learn to love how the other half of the world lives and know that it's not forever.

I was able to save money, and even plan a trip to Bali! I have no idea where I will be heading after my 6 months is over here, but I know it was the best decision I ever made to interview with this location.

What would you improve about this program?
Knowing ahead of time my visa would only be good for a year - that I would run into European backpackers who had availability to a two year visa that Americans are not. Would have softened the blow a little to learn my experience here couldn't be extended.
Response from Alliance Strategies

Hi Alison,

Thanks for your feedback. Coral Bay truly is a great place and not visited by many backpackers and working holidays makers which is a shame the west coast often gets left off many peoples travel lists. Glad to hear you are enjoying your time there and in our country.

Adventures await!

Alliance Abroad is an incredible program. I wouldn't have had the opportunity to find such an awesome job in Australia without them! Working at the Q Station Resort in Manly is intriguing, odd and fun all at the same time and I'll always look back on this time in my life with a smile. The staff have been great and the experience unforgettable!

What would you improve about this program?
The only difficulties I've encountered was on finding housing. I felt like it would have been more helpful, and far less stressful, if Alliance Abroad had already had a place lined up for me to live. It was intense trying to start a new job in a new country and not having a place to live yet. I stayed in a run-down hostel my first several days until I found a room, and I didn't feel comfortable staying there.
Response from Alliance Strategies

Hi Matt,

Thanks for your review. We are glad you are enjoying your time in Australia and at Q Station -its a unique resort.

I agree housing can be difficult- but it isn't always possible to line up accommodation before arrival as we prefer participants to actually view any accommodation before they move in. This isn't possible prior to arrival.

Keep up the videos- we enjoy watching them!

Great Life Experience

I have been here a little over a month and it has been an amazing experience. I've gotten to do things I never expected to do in my entire life. I've gained a lot of experience with the resort I am working with also. Skills I will definitely use in the future. I feel lucky every day I am here! Enjoying every minute of it, and I have time to do outdoor activities as well.

Experience of a lifetime.

I worked at Ayers Rock Resort in the Northern Territory. The staff at Alliance Abroad were great in helping me find a position and whilst i was there just knowing they'd be there to help if anything went wrong gave me peace of mind. I was told before hand that it was a remote area but i don't think i was quite prepared for how remote it would actually be. I basically lived in a desert for 6 months with some of the best and most inspiring people I have ever met. Every day i climbed a sand dune, which was right outside my front door to get to work, and at the top of this dune i had the most breath taking view. The famous Uluru was right there and i thought that eventually i would get fed up of seeing it but even on my last day i was blown away when my new friends and i sat on top of that dune and watched the sun rise over it, we also sang songs from the lion king as we sat there.
I had never lived in a small town before and with Yulara having a population of about one thousand i thought i was going to hate my new home but i absoloutley loved it. I made friends so easily and they are friends that i will have for the rest of my life. They are the kind of people that only show up in fictional travel stories, larger than life personalities, always up to something, and will and do drop by your house at three in the morning to get you to come do something extremely random, weird and amazing.
I made some great memories with them and i don't regret a day that i was there.
Before i went i was told that the company i was going to work for were really good to their staff, i didn't quite grasp how good they actually were. Meals were provided when you were working, and these were buffets cooked by five star chefs, and when you weren't working you got a discount at all the companies restaurants and supermarkets. Basically when you arrive you're given a residents card and that entitles you to discounts on everything and entry to the residents only pub/club/what ever it wanted to be that night.
Since its such a small community you get to know everyone and since your also working with the people you're living with these people quickly become your family, making working there a job as well.
I'm so thankful for the opportunity i was given to go to Ayers Rock Resort, it was the best experience i could have asked for.
