Hands down - the best experience of my life. I was fortunate enough to be placed in Coral Bay, Western Australia. A small tourist town remotely located in the northwest part of the state, boasting some of the best beaches and marine life interactions anywhere. The job I was selected for was reception at a caravan park, but there were times when I was asked to do housekeeping and other times where I was asked to be a deckie on a boat for a day. Swim with mantas? For a job?! Um, yes please!
The accommodation is basic.. .and by basic, I mean a box of a room with a bed and a wardrobe. Rusting showers and toilets and cockroaches living in the kitchen. Did I care? No. It was different than I expected, but knowing about remote locations before my travels here, I grew to really enjoy my accommodation and place of stay. No one in town lives fancy... if you're looking for city life - make sure you ask to be placed in a city. Otherwise, learn to love how the other half of the world lives and know that it's not forever.
I was able to save money, and even plan a trip to Bali! I have no idea where I will be heading after my 6 months is over here, but I know it was the best decision I ever made to interview with this location.
What would you improve about this program?
Knowing ahead of time my visa would only be good for a year - that I would run into European backpackers who had availability to a two year visa that Americans are not. Would have softened the blow a little to learn my experience here couldn't be extended.
Response from Alliance Strategies
Hi Alison,
Thanks for your feedback. Coral Bay truly is a great place and not visited by many backpackers and working holidays makers which is a shame the west coast often gets left off many peoples travel lists. Glad to hear you are enjoying your time there and in our country.
